Does your hotel in Japan run a free shuttle, and will it be there when you arrive? Plenty of hotels and ryokan advertise one, but the details hide in access pages and FAQs: where the bus stops, whether you book, and when the last one leaves. So we read the official page of every hotel we cover that mentions a shuttle and put 28 hotels in one table.
The short version: 26 of 28 say free on their own pages. 11 can need a booking or a phone call. The Haneda airport hotels skip Terminal 2, Narita hotels reach Terminal 3 on only a few buses, and hot spring shuttles stop early in the evening.
Free hotel shuttles in Japan: the 28-hotel table

Grouped by type: airport hotels, city hotels, Maihama by Tokyo Disney Resort, then hot spring towns and resorts. “Booking” is what the hotel’s page says; “not stated” means it says nothing either way. Times are first to last as posted, not full timetables. Each row links to the official page.

What the hotel shuttle table shows
Are hotel shuttles in Japan free?
26 of the 28 say so in their own words: free, complimentary or “Cost Free”. The other 2 do not. Hotel Okura Kobe’s bus page gives routes and times but no fare. Chorakuen calls its service a “courtesy bus” and its pages say nothing about a charge. We list both as fare not stated; ask the hotel when you book. Iwaso’s Japanese access page gives no fare, but its English access page says “Free shuttle bus pickup service is available”, so we count it as free.
Do you need to book the shuttle?
Often. 6 hotels want a booking in advance: The Busena Terrace, Keio Plaza for its Disney bus, Hidatei Hanaougi, Chorakuen, Nishimuraya Honkan and La Vista Hakodate Bay. 3 ask you to phone when you arrive. Hotel Taikanso takes groups by booking, and Ibusuki Hakusuikan says it may switch to reservations. Only 6 say no reservation is needed, and 12 say nothing either way.
What are the two deadlines at Hidatei Hanaougi?
The ryokan gives two. Its access page asks you to reserve the time you want by the day before, with same-day changes up to 30 minutes before. Its FAQ says all runs are by reservation and to phone at least 30 minutes before the bus. We show both because the pages differ; ask the ryokan which applies when you book.
Do shuttles run both ways?
Most do: 22 of 28 run both ways and 2 run a loop. Three do not. Nishimuraya Honkan’s bus runs from the station to the ryokan. Iwaso describes pickup at the ferry pier and says nothing about the return. La Vista Hakodate Bay runs a shared taxi to the station after checkout only.
Airport hotel shuttles: Haneda, Narita and Naha

Do Haneda hotel shuttles stop at Terminal 2?
No, neither of the two we checked. Hotel JAL City Haneda Tokyo asks Terminal 2 arrivals to move to Terminal 1 to board, and adds that the bus passes Terminal 3 before 10 p.m. Keikyu EX Inn Haneda says plainly that it does not stop at Terminal 2. Both run Terminals 1 and 3 only.
Can I catch a Haneda hotel shuttle at midday?
Not on the posted times. Both run to the airport in the morning and back to the hotel in the evening: JAL City’s first bus from Terminal 1 is 16:15, and Keikyu EX Inn’s is 18:25. Land at noon and you take the train or a taxi.
Which Narita shuttles reach Terminal 3?
Very few buses. At Hotel Nikko Narita, only the 4:30, 5:10, 5:50 and 12:10 buses from the hotel go direct to Terminal 3; at other times you change to the airport’s terminal bus. Hilton Narita says only buses in the 5 a.m. hour stop at Terminal 3, on the way to Terminals 2 and 1. If you fly from Terminal 3, check the bus before you plan the morning.
Why is The Busena Terrace airport shuttle only for some guests?
Its notice says the airport shuttle is exclusively for guests who book directly through the official website or the hotel’s reservation center. Packages with airfare or car rental, travel agencies and online travel sites are not eligible. You must reserve by 6 p.m. (JST) the day before, preschool children sit on an adult’s lap, and typhoons can stop it. See our Busena Terrace guide, and our hotel cancellation comparison if you are weighing a direct booking.
Station shuttles in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe

Which city hotel shuttles have limits?
Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo runs its free Ikebukuro bus on weekends and holidays only, and its timetable is dated August 2025. Hotel Okura Kyoto’s shuttle from its lounge by Kyoto Station is for hotel guests only and seats 9. Nara Hotel’s seats 23. Hotel Okura Kobe’s runs daily from Sannomiya, going to Shin-Kobe Station on weekends and holidays.
Are there festival or event suspensions?
Two hotels have posted event notices. Hotel Okura Kobe lists six evening buses from Sannomiya that will not run from October 19 to 23 because of traffic restrictions for the Minato HANABI event, and Hotel Okura Kyoto posts a notice about suspending its shuttle for the Jidai Matsuri procession. Check the hotel’s notices before an event date.
How do the Tokyo Disney Resort hotel shuttles differ?
Hilton Tokyo Bay and Maihama View Hotel run free buses from JR Maihama Station, and both warn of crowding or delays after the parks close. Hotel Okura Tokyo Bay has no bus of its own to the parks; it points you to the free Disney Resort Cruiser to Bayside Station, a 3-minute walk away. Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo runs a free park bus that is reservation only. Our Tokyo Disneyland hotels guide compares the area.
Ryokan and resort shuttles: call ahead, and arrive early

How does a call-on-arrival shuttle work?
You phone from the station or pier and the inn sends a car. Fuji Lake Hotel says to call when you reach Kawaguchiko Station and it will come in 5 to 10 minutes, with phone lines from 10:00 to 23:00. Konansou works the same way and warns that it may not be able to pick up guests who can only be reached by email. Iwaso asks for a call on the day once your ferry time is fixed. A working phone matters; see our eSIM guide.
What time is the last hot spring shuttle?
Early. Hidatei Hanaougi’s last pickup from Takayama Station is 17:30, Chorakuen’s 18:30, Suginoi’s from Beppu Station 18:40 on weekdays (20:40 on weekends and holidays), and Konansou’s 19:30. Nara Hotel’s last bus from JR Nara is 18:05. Ibusuki Hakusuikan runs one bus from the station a day, at 15:15, and its page notes, as of November 2023, that taxis near the hotel are hard to book, especially early morning, evenings and weekends.
Which shuttles run only a few times a day?
Ibusuki Hakusuikan runs three: two from the hotel, one from the station. Nikko Kanaya Hotel runs three round trips on its regular timetable, with a separate autumn timetable on set days from October 10 to November 8, 2026. La Vista Hakodate Bay runs five shared-taxi trips between 8:30 and 12:00, and Nishimuraya Honkan’s bus meets certain limited express trains only.
Are all of these hotel-run buses?
No. In Kinosaki, the Ryokan Association runs a complimentary bus from the station to all participating ryokan, and Nishimuraya Honkan asks for your train time before your check-in day. Nikko Kanaya Hotel shares its bus with Chuzenji Kanaya Hotel, and Hotel Okura Kobe runs its shuttle jointly with Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel.
