The Busena Terrace (2026): Check-In, Kids, Tattoos, Parking

Guide·September 24, 2026·20 min read·Sourced & cross-checked

The Busena Terrace is the resort that fills the tip of Cape Busena in Nago, the hotel that hosted the 2000 G8 summit, with a butler service, its own beach and a rule book written for a clientele that expects one. Its English FAQ answers most of what a booking needs and skips one thing: check-in 14:00, checkout 11:00, children free only to age 5, a 20,000-yen charge for any sign of smoking, parking at 2,000 yen a night from April 2026, tattoos covered everywhere and barred from the spa, a beach with no lifeguards from November to March, and a 24,000-yen airport car. Its terms and conditions add a room cancellation scale that starts 20 days out.

Everything below is from the hotel’s official English FAQ and its access page. Room rates are not here; the fees, hours and rules the hotel prints are.

Honto check: Every rule and figure on this page is from The Busena Terrace’s official English FAQ, access page and terms and conditions (terrace.co.jp), read on September 18, 2026. Deliberately not stated: room rates; restaurant hours and room sizes, which the FAQ says vary by season and room type; and the airport shuttle timetable, which is seasonal.

What is The Busena Terrace, and how is it laid out?

A resort at 1808 Kise, Nago, spread across a central tower, north and south towers, club villas and cottage suites on the cape, with the beach two or three minutes on foot from the rooms. A butler service handles luggage, Wi-Fi help and amenity requests. Connecting rooms exist in the Deluxe Ocean Front, Deluxe Ocean Front Club Floor and Penthouse Suite categories. Nearly every room type is wheelchair accessible except the Superior Ocean Front on the second floor, the maisonettes and the club villas, which have stairs; handrails, non-slip mats and shower chairs are lent on request, and the beach has free amphibious chair boats for guests with a companion. Our Okinawa map shows the cape between Onna and Nago on the west coast.

What is on the grounds?

An indoor pool open all year with a shallow children’s section, two landscaped outdoor pools in season with a water slide on the lower one, spa baths and dry saunas for men and women, a cardio-only gym for ages 13 and up (no swimwear, free shoe rental, bring socks), a 24-hour paid laundry on the South Tower’s first floor, and a convenience store five minutes away in the resort’s Banyan Village selling baby food, diapers and baby soap. There are no vending machines, no medicines (the nearest pharmacy is 20 minutes by car) and no ATM (10 minutes by car). Swimsuits and training wear are sold, not rented. Fireworks are prohibited on the whole property including the beach.

Check-in at 14:00, checkout at 11:00, and the smoking charge

Can I use the beach before my room is ready?

Yes. Check-in is from 14:00, earlier than most Japanese hotels, and the FAQ says the beach and pools are open to guests before check-in and after checkout; butlers store luggage and the locker rooms at Refreshing Square on the South Tower’s first floor handle changing. Checkout is 11:00. Luggage sent ahead goes to the Butler Service with the lead guest’s name and arrival date.

What is the smoking rule?

Every room and balcony is non-smoking, e-cigarettes included. If staff find you smoking or find butts in the room, the hotel charges a 20,000-yen cleaning and compensation fee, according to the FAQ; the terms and conditions go further and allow a penalty equal to the room charge plus any damage caused. Smoking is confined to a designated area on the grounds, and every restaurant and bar is non-smoking. The FAQ also asks guests not to bring outside babysitters or masseuses into rooms; the hotel introduces its own partners.

What about cancellation?

Correction from an earlier version of this page: we wrote that the hotel publishes no room cancellation scale. Its FAQ does not, but its terms and conditions do, in Table No. 2. For 1 to 14 guests the charge is 5 percent from 20 days before, 20 percent from 7 days, 50 percent from 3 days and the day before, and 100 percent on the day or for a no-show, calculated on the room charge plus consumption tax. Packages can carry their own terms, and a guest who has not arrived by 8:00 p.m. without notice may be treated as canceled. The spa has its own deadline: cancel a treatment after 12:00 on the day before and you pay 100 percent. Typhoons can also suspend the airport shuttle, so a flexible plan is worth its price in the storm months; our weather warnings guide explains the alerts.

Children: free to 5, counted from 6

Children up to age 5 stay at no extra charge. From age 6 they count toward the room’s occupancy, which decides which room types you can book, and the FAQ warns that not all room types allow small children and that plans can set a different age. That is a lower free-child ceiling than the 12-and-under rule at Halekulani Okinawa up the coast, so a family with a 7-year-old should compare occupancy before price.

What does the hotel provide for babies?

Free, limited and first come, first served: bassinets for infants under 13 months, bed guards from 18 months to 4 years, and strollers from 1 month to 2 years, plus loungewear in size 130 cm. Baby food can be prepared for a fee with seven days’ notice, when the kitchen also asks about allergies. A 24-hour nursing room with a changing bed is on the third floor of the Central Tower in front of the Living Room Maroad, and changing beds are in five restrooms including one at the Rumble Fish seafood market on the cape. Children in water diapers under a swimsuit may use the pools and the beach; the diapers are sold at the Activity Counter.

Which restaurants take children?

The main dining room Fanuan and the teppanyaki restaurant Ryutan are limited to elementary-school age and older, and the bar bars anyone under 20 after 21:00. The Japanese restaurant Mahae has a children’s menu and serves the Okinawan dishes; other venues have child-friendly options that change with the season. During a wedding banquet, by contrast, children of any age are welcome in Fanuan.

The beach, the pools and the tattoo rules

The beach at Cape Busena

Can I swim in winter?

The beach is open for swimming all year, but no lifeguards are on duty from November through March, and the hotel asks you to tell the Activity Counter before you go in. The indoor pool runs daily year-round; the two outdoor pools open in season. All pools are exclusively for staying guests. Beach visitors who are not staying pay a facility fee of 5,500 yen per person aged 7 and over, while visitors using the restaurants or shops pay nothing and park free.

What is the tattoo policy?

Stricter than the resort next door. The hotel asks guests not to expose tattoos anywhere on the premises: a cover-up or jacket in public areas such as the lobby and restaurants, a rash guard at the pool and beach, and no use of the spa baths or sauna at all for guests with tattoos. Our tattoo and onsen guide lists Okinawa alternatives, and Halekulani Okinawa allows tattoos at two of its pools.

What activities need booking?

The introductory dive is a two-hour session for ages 10 to 64, with start times posted daily by weather and tide, no same-day flights afterward and no pregnant participants; bring a swimsuit and sandals, which are sold but not rented, and prescription goggles are available. Terrace Spa treatments are booked between 11:00 and 19:00, for ages 18 and up, not during pregnancy, with the esthetic room for women only; arrive 30 minutes early to use the spa area, and non-guests may book too. A saxophonist plays by the pool for 30 minutes before and after sunset.

Restaurants, dress code and dietary requests

Is there a dress code?

At dinner in the main dining room Fanuan, casual attire is not permitted: men in shirts and trousers that cover the knees, women encouraged to wear evening dress, and no beach sandals or slippers. Sunset tables are at Fanuan, the terrace of Cafe Terrace La Tida and the Rumble Fish seafood market. Private rooms for up to 16 exist at Fanuan and Mahae for a fee with a set menu. Breakfast is first come, first served; dinner reservations are recommended; non-guests are welcome outside certain periods. For the island’s own cooking beyond the resort, see our Okinawa food guide.

Can the kitchen handle allergies?

With one week’s notice on the hotel’s Food Allergy Notification Form, the chefs can cook without the eight major allergens (shrimp, crab, walnuts, wheat, buckwheat, eggs, milk, peanuts) and 20 more that Japan does not require on labels. Cakes and bouquets for celebrations are arranged through the Food and Beverage Department, and lunch tickets and pair dinner tickets are sold as gifts.

Getting there, parking and the airport car

How do I get there from Naha Airport?

By car, about 75 minutes on the Okinawa Expressway (5 minutes from the Kyoda exit heading south on Route 58, or 20 minutes from Yaka heading north) or about 90 minutes on Route 58; the airport limousine bus takes about 90 minutes. The hotel’s chauffeured car between Naha Airport and The Busena Terrace is 24,000 yen, tax included, and sightseeing hire starts at 30,000 yen. A free shuttle links the Terrace group’s hotels for registered guests with a day’s notice, and a seasonal airport shuttle for guests who book directly runs on a published timetable (reservations by 18:00 the day before; suspended in typhoons). Rental cars come from the Orix Onna branch with delivery to the hotel. Our getting to Okinawa guide covers the flights into Naha.

How much is parking?

Valet, no reservation: 2,000 yen per vehicle per night from April 1, 2026 (1,500 yen for bookings made by September 30, 2025, even for later stays). On a stay of five nights or more, parking is free from the sixth night, up to five free nights. It is free for guests in the Gazebo, Penthouse, Club, Deluxe Cottage, Superior Cottage, Luxurious Cottage and Presidential Cottage suites, and free for visitors using the restaurants, shops or banquet rooms.

What is nearby?

The FAQ gives driving times for rental-car days: north, Kouri Island 40 minutes, Nakijin Castle ruins and the Churaumi Aquarium 60 minutes; south, Cape Manza 20 minutes, Neo Park 20, Bios no Oka and Ryukyu Mura 50, and American Village 60. Two hospitals are 20 to 25 minutes away.

Who The Busena Terrace is for

Couples and families with children under 6 who want a full-service cape resort with a year-round indoor pool and a butler, and who can live with a strict dress code at dinner, a strict tattoo rule and a cancellation scale that starts 20 days out. Families with older children should check the occupancy rule against the room type first, and anyone with tattoos who wants a sauna should look at Halekulani Okinawa instead.

(How this compares: our table of cancellation deadlines at 27 Japanese hotels puts The Busena Terrace’s 20-day scale next to the day-before scale most city hotels use.)

Frequently asked questions

What time is check-in and check-out at The Busena Terrace?
Check-in from 14:00 and checkout by 11:00, an hour earlier on arrival than most Japanese hotels; some plans differ. The beach and pools can be used before check-in and after checkout, with butlers storing luggage and locker rooms at Refreshing Square on the first floor of the South Tower.
What is the cancellation policy?
The FAQ does not print one, but the hotel’s terms and conditions do: for 1 to 14 guests, 5 percent from 20 days before, 20 percent from 7 days, 50 percent from 3 days and the day before, and 100 percent on the day or for a no-show. Packages may have their own terms, so read the plan at booking. The Terrace Spa has its own cutoff, where canceling after 12:00 on the day before costs 100 percent.
Do children stay free?
There is no charge for children up to age 5. From age 6 a child counts toward the room’s occupancy, and some room types do not take small children; the age limit can also differ by plan. Bassinets (under 13 months), bed guards (18 months to 4 years) and strollers (1 month to 2 years) are free on a first-come basis, loungewear comes in size 130 cm, and the on-site convenience store sells baby food, diapers and baby soap. Children in water diapers under a swimsuit may use the pools and beach.
What is the tattoo policy?

How much is parking?
Valet parking for overnight guests is 2,000 yen per vehicle per night from April 1, 2026 (1,500 yen for reservations made by September 30, 2025), free from the sixth night on a stay of five nights or more, and free for guests in the Gazebo, Penthouse, Club and Cottage suites. No reservation is needed. Visitors using only the restaurants or shops park free; visitors using only the beach pay a facility fee of 5,500 yen per person aged 7 and over.
Is smoking allowed anywhere?
Not in the rooms or on the balconies, including e-cigarettes. If staff find you smoking or find cigarette butts in the room, a 20,000-yen cleaning and compensation fee is charged. There is a designated smoking area on the grounds, and all restaurants and bars are non-smoking.
Which restaurants have age limits or a dress code?
The main dining room Fanuan and the teppanyaki restaurant Ryutan are for elementary-school age and older, and the bar does not admit anyone under 20 after 21:00. At Fanuan, casual wear is not permitted at dinner: men wear shirts and trousers that cover the knee, women are asked to wear evening dress, and beach sandals and slippers are refused. Breakfast needs no reservation; dinner reservations are recommended, and allergy requests need a week’s notice on the hotel’s form.
How do I get there from Naha Airport?
About 75 minutes by car on the Okinawa Expressway (5 minutes from the Kyoda exit) or 90 minutes on Route 58, and about 90 minutes by airport limousine bus.
