Tokyo Skytree is 634 meters tall — and that oddly specific number is a pun. In Japanese, 6-3-4 can be read mu-sa-shi: Musashi, the old province that contained Tokyo. The world's tallest freestanding broadcast tower is, at heart, a dad joke in steel. Across town, Tokyo Tower answers with 333 meters and its own flex — built in 1958 to stand exactly taller than the Eiffel Tower it resembles. This page settles every height question in Tokyo's skyline, then tells you which numbers are actually worth paying to stand on.

634: the number that's a word
When Skytree's engineers passed the 600-meter mark, the exact final height was a choice — and they chose language over round numbers. Mu (6), sa (3), shi (4): Musashi, the historical province whose plains became Tokyo. The height made it the world's tallest tower on completion in 2012 (buildings like the Burj Khalifa are a different category), and it still holds the title. The two paid decks are the Tembo Deck at 350 m — the main event, a full city-to-horizon panorama — and the Tembo Galleria at 450 m, a glass spiral that feels like walking inside the sky. 333: the tower that out-Eiffeled Eiffel

Tokyo Tower's 333 meters were no accident either — postwar Japan built its broadcast tower deliberately taller than Paris's 324-meter icon, and did it with about half the steel, a fact engineers still brag about. Decks at 150 m and ~250 m can't compete with Skytree's altitude, but they offer something Skytree can't: a view that contains Skytree — and at night, the orange tower is Tokyo's warmest landmark, not its tallest. The romance-vs-altitude decision, priced out: the Tokyo Tower guide.
