Hotel Nikko Kanazawa stands at 2-15-1 Honmachi, Kanazawa, in front of the Kenrokuen (East) Exit of JR Kanazawa Station, about a 3-minute walk away. Before you book, know five rules: under the hotel’s standard terms, canceling the day before costs 50 percent; the booking may lapse if you are not there by 8 p.m. and have not called; the total shown when you book online leaves out the Kanazawa accommodation tax; there is no pool, gym or onsen in the hotel; and on set afternoons in October, in-room power and hot water are off around check-in time.
The hotel’s terms say the Japanese text wins where the Japanese and English versions differ, and its English pages carry some older figures, so where its pages disagree we follow the Japanese and say so, or we leave the point out.

What is Hotel Nikko Kanazawa, and which floor should I book?

What kind of hotel is it?
A 30-floor hotel run by Okura Nikko Hotels, opened on April 10, 1994. The Okura Nikko page says that at 130 meters it is the tallest hotel in the Hokuriku region. All 247 rooms are on the 17th floor or above; an English notice puts them on floors 17 to 28. The front desk and the cashier run 24 hours, there is no curfew, and the English FAQ mentions a foreign currency exchange machine in the lobby. For the city around it, see our Kanazawa map.
How are the floors different?
The hotel sells its rooms by floor, and the floors differ in bathroom layout as well as view:
| Floor | Name | Bathroom | Perks the hotel lists |
|---|---|---|---|
| 27 | NIKKO | Separate shower booth, bathtub and toilet | Free minibar drinks; free parking (not on some discount plans) |
| 26 and 28 | LUXE | Bath and toilet separate | One bar-lounge drink ticket per person per night; free parking |
| 20–25 | COMFORT | Bath and toilet separate | Free minibar drinks in Deluxe rooms only |
| 17–19 | STYLISH | Unit bath | Free minibar drinks in Deluxe rooms only |
Official floor pages (Japanese) and facility document, read October 5, 2026.
The unit bath on the Stylish floors, where bathtub, sink and toilet share one compact room, appears only in the hotel’s facility document, not on its room pages. If a separate bathroom matters, book Comfort or higher. The Luxe drink ticket works at the 1st-floor lobby lounge, the 29th-floor main bar and the 30th-floor sky lounge; the hotel notes the main bar is for ages 20 and over and the sky lounge for children aged 10 and over.
How big are the rooms?
| Room type | Size | Bed width x length (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| Double (all floors) | 22 m² | 1,600 x 2,000; Comfort 1,500 x 2,000 |
| Queen | 26 m² | 1,600 x 2,000 (Nikko 1,800) |
| Twin | 31–32 m² (Comfort 31) | 1,200 x 2,000 |
| Deluxe | 44 m² | Twin, Hollywood or king, by floor |
| Suite Twin (27F) | 64 m² | 1,400 x 2,000 |
| Imperial Suite Twin (27F) | 108 m² | 1,400 x 2,000 |
Official floor pages (Japanese), read October 5, 2026. Rates are left out on purpose.
The twin is the most common room in the hotel. For the Comfort Double, the Japanese page says 22 square meters and the English pages say 19 to 22; we follow the Japanese. The English page also gives the Comfort Twin as 31 to 32 square meters against 31 in Japanese. Since January 6, 2026, the hotel has renamed some room types, and it warns that the room name on your booking may differ from the names on its website or on other booking sites.
What is in the room?
The rooms come with a toothbrush set, pajamas and slippers. Wi-Fi and wired internet are free in every room. Some Stylish twins can be connected; ask in advance. One universal-design Comfort Deluxe Twin of 44 square meters is on each of the 20th and 21st floors, and it takes a wheelchair.
Check-in, checkout and late checkout at Hotel Nikko Kanazawa
What time are check-in and checkout?
Check-in is from 15:00 and checkout is by 12:00 noon. Article 10 of the terms of stay sets the same hours in Japanese and English. The Japanese FAQ adds that if your plan sets its own times, the plan’s times come first. If you stay several nights in a row, the room is yours all day between your arrival and departure days.
How much does late checkout cost?
Article 10 says the hotel may agree to let you use the room outside those hours, and charges a share of the room charge:
| Extra time | Extra charge |
|---|---|
| Up to 3 hours (until 15:00 after a noon checkout) | 30% of the room charge |
| Up to 6 hours (until 18:00) | 50% of the room charge |
| More than 6 hours | The room charge in full |
Article 10 of the official terms of stay (English and Japanese match), read October 5, 2026.
“May” means it is not guaranteed, so ask at the front desk. The terms set no separate early check-in fee; the same table covers any use outside the normal hours. Our late checkout guide compares how other hotels in Japan charge.
What if I arrive late?
Call ahead. Article 6 of the terms says that if you have not arrived by 8 p.m. on the day, or two hours after the arrival time you gave, without contacting the hotel, it may treat the booking as canceled by you. The English and Japanese terms match. The main number is 076-234-1111; the reservations desk, 076-234-8801, takes calls from 9:00 to 18:00.
What do I need at check-in, and can I leave luggage?
Article 8 says guests from outside Japan give their nationality, passport number, and place and date of entry into Japan. The bell desk on the 1st floor keeps luggage before check-in and after checkout. To send luggage ahead, write your stay date and the name on the booking on the delivery slip and address it to the front desk. To send luggage out, the English FAQ asks you to hand it in before 11:00; boxes cost 260 yen (size 120) or 220 yen (size 100).
Canceling a Hotel Nikko Kanazawa booking
What does it cost to cancel?
These are the hotel’s standard accommodation terms, from Attached Table 3 of the terms of stay:
| When you cancel | Up to 4 guests | Groups of 5 or more |
|---|---|---|
| 4 to 30 days before | 0% | 20% |
| 3 days before | 0% | 50% |
| Day before | 50% | 80% |
| On the day | 80% | 100% |
| No-show | 100% | 100% |
Attached Table 3 of the official terms of stay (English and Japanese match), read October 5, 2026. The table lists no charge for up to four guests two or more days before.
The day-before charge is the one to watch. Many hotels we have covered charge 20 percent the day before; here the standard terms charge 50 percent. If your plans might change, decide by two days before. If you shorten a stay, the fee is one night’s worth, however many nights you cut.
Can I change a booking made before March 23, 2026?
The hotel switched its Japanese booking system on March 23, 2026. Bookings made in the old system, with a 15-character number in the form 024-XXXXXXXX-XX, stay valid. To change one, the hotel’s notice asks you to cancel it in the old system and book again in the new one, so check the cancellation timing before you do. The terms also let the hotel ask for an advance payment of up to three nights’ basic room charge. Our hotel cancellation guide explains how these fees work across Japan.
Taxes and payment at Hotel Nikko Kanazawa
What is added to the bill?
Attached Table 1 of the terms builds the bill from the basic room charge or plan price, a 10 percent service charge on it, food, drink and other charges with their own 10 percent service charge, consumption tax, which the hotel’s English profile lists at 10 percent, and the accommodation tax. The hotel uses variable pricing, so the rate depends on availability when you ask.
How much is the Kanazawa accommodation tax?
The tax is set by the City of Kanazawa under its accommodation tax ordinance, per person per night. This is the table as listed by the hotel in its Japanese accommodation tax notice:
| Room-only charge per person per night | Tax |
|---|---|
| Under 5,000 yen | Not taxed (stays from October 1, 2024) |
| 5,000 to 19,999 yen | 200 yen |
| 20,000 yen or more | 500 yen |
Hotel notice (Japanese only), read October 5, 2026. The charge counted is the room-only price with its service charge, without meals. Check the City of Kanazawa for the current rules.
The hotel’s own documents differ. The English site links to an older city leaflet and an older English version of the terms, both showing only two bands, 200 yen under 20,000 yen and 500 yen above, without the untaxed band. The newest terms, revised May 21, 2026, give no amounts at all and refer to the city’s ordinance. We have not checked the city’s own page.
Which cards are accepted?
The Japanese FAQ lists Visa, JCB, Mastercard, Diners Club, American Express and UnionPay, and notes that the cards accepted for online payment may differ. It also lists WAON, iD and transport IC cards such as Suica and ICOCA (not PiTaPa), and PayPay. Article 13 of the terms says you pay at the front desk when you leave, or when the hotel asks. The terms cap the hotel’s liability for undeclared valuables at 200,000 yen.
Breakfast at Hotel Nikko Kanazawa: prices, hours and free kids
How much is breakfast?
| Breakfast | Price |
|---|---|
| The Garden House (2F) buffet, adults | 4,200 yen |
| The Garden House buffet, elementary school children | 2,100 yen |
| The Garden House buffet, young children | 1,000 yen; free at 3 and under |
| Benkay (6F) Japanese set breakfast | 4,200 yen |
Official breakfast page (Japanese), read October 5, 2026. Prices include tax and service charge.
The page also says children of elementary school age and younger who stay at the hotel with you eat free; this does not apply to groups. The hotel does not explain when the children’s prices in the table apply instead. For young children, the Japanese page says free at 3 and under, and the English page says under 3; we follow the Japanese.
The buffet runs 7:00 to 10:00, last order 9:30, and on busy days it may open earlier, from about 6:30. It has about 40 Japanese and Western dishes, and the hotel names its kurumafu French toast as a specialty. Compare other hotels in our hotel breakfast prices guide.
Is there a Japanese or vegan breakfast?
Benkay on the 6th floor serves a Japanese set breakfast for 4,200 yen, and a vegan menu if you book by 19:00 the day before. The hotel’s facility document says Benkay’s breakfast runs on busy days only, while the breakfast page sets no such limit, so check at check-in that it is open. Room service breakfast runs from 7:00 to 9:30, last order.
Kids and families at Hotel Nikko Kanazawa
Can children share a bed?
Yes, young ones. Article 9 says each room takes up to four guests, and bed-sharing is for children under 6, one child per bed. The English and Japanese terms match. The hotel publishes no bed-sharing charge, so check the plan when you book.
Which room fits four?
The terms allow four per room, but the only room the hotel markets for four is the Comfort Deluxe, 44 square meters, on floors 20 to 25. The hotel’s pages do not mention extra beds, so ask before booking four into a twin.
Are cribs and kids’ supplies available?
The Japanese FAQ says baby cots are free to borrow, but limited in number, so ask when you book; the Okura Nikko page adds that bed guards and cots both need booking ahead. Children’s yukata, pajamas, slippers and toothbrush sets, sized for toddlers to younger elementary school children, are free.
Are there age limits?
Yes. The 30th-floor restaurant La Plage and the 30th-floor sky lounge take children aged 10 and over, and the main bar is for ages 20 and over.
Pool, gym and spa at Hotel Nikko Kanazawa
Is there a pool, gym or onsen?
Not in the hotel. The English FAQ states plainly that there is no onsen and suggests the bath in your room. Instead, the Japanese FAQ points to Central Fitness Club Kanazawa, a separate facility in Porte Kanazawa, the building the hotel is in; the English FAQ calls it the next building. The front desk sells a one-time ticket for 2,200 yen. The English FAQ lists a training gym, a 25-meter pool and a steam sauna as examples.
Is there a spa or massage?
The hotel offers treatments in your room, from 10:00 to 22:30, for women only; a man can book only together with a woman. Prices start at 16,000 yen for 50 minutes. Canceling less than an hour before costs 100 percent, and treatments close from December 30 to January 4.
Is there a laundry?
There is no coin laundry in the hotel, but a laundry service runs except on Sundays, public holidays and over New Year. The English FAQ mentions a laundromat outside the hotel, a few minutes on foot.
Getting to Hotel Nikko Kanazawa: station, airport and parking

Which station exit do I use?
Use the Kenrokuen Exit, also called the East Exit, of JR Kanazawa Station. The hotel says that as you walk through the station’s Tsuzumi Gate, the hotel is ahead on your right, about 3 minutes on foot, and that an underground passage from the station lets you reach it without getting wet when it rains. For what to see once you arrive, see our things to do in Kanazawa guide.
How do I get there from Komatsu Airport?
| From Komatsu Airport | Japanese pages | English pages |
|---|---|---|
| Airport bus to Kanazawa Station | About 45–60 min | About 60 min |
| Car, by expressway | About 40 min | About 45–60 min |
Official access pages and facility document, read October 5, 2026. Times are the hotel’s; fares and timetables are not listed.
We follow the Japanese figures. The English pages call the bus a shuttle bus, but the Japanese page makes clear it is the airport bus bound for Kanazawa Station, and the hotel’s banquet FAQ says it offers no free shuttle service. By car, the hotel gives about 15 minutes from the Kanazawa-nishi interchange and about 10 from Kanazawa-higashi. On October 25, 2026, the Kanazawa Marathon brings large traffic restrictions across the city, the hotel says.
How much is parking?
Guests park in the Porte Kanazawa basement car park under the hotel, 186 spaces, for 1,500 yen a night including tax, or 800 yen for One Harmony members, from 15:00 on check-in day to 12:00 on checkout day. Guests on the Nikko and Luxe floors park free, except on some discount plans. You can drive in and out 24 hours and pay at the front desk.
Compare other hotels in our hotel parking fees guide.
Power outages and other dates at Hotel Nikko Kanazawa
Which days are affected by outages?
The hotel is running electrical inspections. On these afternoons, its notice says, lights, air conditioning and the fridge stop on some guest floors, and hot water stops in all guest rooms, so showers cannot be used:
| Date | Time |
|---|---|
| October 19, 20, 21 and 22, 2026 (Monday to Thursday) | 14:30 to 16:30 |
| October 27, 2026 (Tuesday) | 13:30 to 15:30 |
| January 18, 2027 (Monday) | 13:30 to 15:30 |
Official notice, read October 5, 2026. Earlier dates in the notice have passed.
These windows overlap the 15:00 check-in, so if you arrive on one of these days, or are staying over, expect no shower until the work ends. Tap water, toilets and phones work as normal, and each room has a flashlight. A separate notice lists night crane work on December 2 from 23:00 to 5:00 the next morning, which may bring vibration and noise.
House rules at Hotel Nikko Kanazawa
Can I smoke?
Not in your room. Since stays from January 6, 2025, all guest rooms are non-smoking, including heated tobacco and e-cigarettes. The hotel has a 24-hour smoking booth in the 1st-floor lobby.
Can I bring food in, or order delivery?
The Japanese house rules ask you not to bring food and drink into the hotel without permission, and not to order food delivery from outside. The English version mentions only delivery; the terms say the Japanese text prevails, so ask the front desk before bringing food in.
Which other rules surprise foreign guests?
Pets are not allowed, except guide dogs, hearing dogs and service dogs. Visitors should not come to your room after 22:00. The hotel asks you not to leave mobile batteries charging while you are out of the room, and staff may stop the charging if they find it. Heating and cooking with an open flame in rooms or corridors is not allowed. The hotel’s English profile lists Japanese and English as its languages.
Who Hotel Nikko Kanazawa suits

The official rules point to rail travelers who want to be at Kanazawa Station, a 3-minute covered walk away; families with young children, who share a bed under 6 and eat breakfast free through elementary school; and anyone who wants a room high above the city. It is a harder fit for travelers whose plans may change late, given the 50 percent day-before charge; for anyone who wants a pool or onsen in the building; for drivers who need a guaranteed space before mid-December; and for guests arriving on the October outage afternoons who want a shower right away.
