Nanki Shirahama Nagomi-no-Yu Kachofugetsu is a 24-room inn on high ground in Shirahama Onsen, Wakayama, run by the Kyoto Plaza Hotels group. Its two-story wooden building uses local Kishu timber. Before you book, three things matter: there is no large shared bath, because every room has its own hot-spring bath; every online plan includes dinner and breakfast; and the station and airport shuttle must be reserved in advance.

Honto check: Every rule and figure below is from Kachofugetsu’s official Japanese and English pages and its official booking page, read on October 14, 2026. We have not stayed there. Deliberately not stated: the end of check-in, a door-closing time, the cancellation fees, the rules for children, when payment is due and the capacity of each room, because the Japanese and English pages give different answers; and a tattoo rule, a private bath for hire and vegetarian or halal meals, which the official pages do not mention.

Rooms and in-room hot-spring baths at Kachofugetsu

The ground floor holds the front desk, a lounge and the restaurant; the second floor is all guest rooms. Most rooms are standard Western or Japanese-Western rooms. There is also a 45-mat special room called “Kumoi,” semi-special rooms, a designer room and a barrier-free room called “Fuji,” and the Japanese FAQ says the building is almost step-free inside. Rooms have Wi-Fi, a hair dryer, a fridge and an air purifier, and rental bicycles are available for a fee.

Which rooms have a sea view?

Only the special room and the semi-special rooms look out toward the sea, according to the Japanese FAQ. You cannot choose a specific room, and the inn says it is surrounded by woods and houses.

When can I use the in-room bath?

Any time. The inn chose not to build a large bath so guests keep their privacy; instead, each room has a semi-open-air bath of natural hot-spring water, open 24 hours. The tubs differ by room, in wood, barrel or ceramic, and the inn says the water is fresh hot-spring water, not run through a circulating filter. Kumoi has an indoor bath plus a fully open-air rock bath.

Can I bathe with a tattoo?

The official pages do not mention tattoos. Since there is no shared bath, you bathe in your own room, but if this matters to you, ask the inn before booking. Our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.

The nearest station is JR Shirahama Station, served by the Kuroshio limited express, and the nearest airport is Nanki-Shirahama Airport, which the inn lists with three flights a day from Haneda. The inn runs a shuttle from both.

How does the shuttle work?

It runs at set times and is by reservation only; the booking page says same-day shuttle requests cannot be accepted. The times on the booking page:

Yes. From the Hanwa Expressway, exit at Nanki-Tanabe IC and follow the Route 42 bypass, then prefectural roads 33, 31 and 34. The inn has free parking with more spaces than rooms. The English FAQ notes that the nearest Lawson convenience store is about five minutes away by car.

What is served for dinner and breakfast?

Dinner is served in the restaurant, in seatings at 17:30, 18:00 or 18:30. The signature “Kishu kuzushi kaiseki” includes a starter box called “flower jewel box,” local sashimi, abalone grilled at the table and thick-cut Kumano beef shabu-shabu; seasonal kaiseki menus change through the year, and some plans serve dinner in your room. Breakfast is from 7:00 to 9:00. Children’s meals are a children’s kaiseki. The lounge offers coffee and soft drinks 24 hours, and a welcome drink is free.

Can the inn handle allergies?

Only in part. The Japanese FAQ lists the foods it can remove, including egg, shellfish, crustaceans, dairy, buckwheat, mushrooms, nuts and fruit. Wheat and soy cannot be removed, and complete removal is not guaranteed. Some dinner menus already take no allergy requests, and the inn says it is considering ending allergy changes entirely. For pregnant guests, raw dishes can be cooked. The pages do not mention vegetarian or halal meals.

Prices and rules at Kachofugetsu

How much does a stay cost?

On the official booking page, plans start at 21,400 yen per person with two meals, tax included, for two guests sharing a room (as of October 14, 2026). All 30 plans listed include dinner and breakfast, and the inn uses dynamic pricing, so rates move with dates. A bathing tax of 150 yen per adult is charged separately; children aged 0 to 11 are exempt. See our onsen bathing tax guide. Shirahama town also plans an accommodation tax from March 1, 2027, of 200 to 1,000 yen per person per night depending on the room-only rate, according to the town’s notice.

What time is check-in and checkout?

Check-in starts at 15:00. Checkout is 11:00; the inn’s terms allow an extension to 13:00 at 30 percent of the room rate per hour. If you have not arrived by 21:00 without contacting the inn, the terms say the booking may be treated as canceled. The official pages give different end times for check-in, so tell the inn if you expect to arrive late.

What do children cost?

The Japanese and English pages describe the rules for children differently. If you are traveling with children, confirm ages and rates with the inn before you book.

What is the cancellation policy?

The official pages give more than one version of the cancellation fees, so read the policy on your plan when you book and confirm it with the inn. Changes go through the channel you used: the Japanese FAQ says only direct phone bookings are handled by the inn’s staff. Our hotel cancellation guide covers the common patterns.

How do I pay?

The terms accept Japanese yen or credit cards the inn accepts, and personal checks are not taken. The pages differ on when payment is due, so check this when you book.
