Hotel Katsuragi (Hotel Katsuragi Spa Resort Dogo in full) is a 25-room hotel in Dogo Onsen, Matsuyama, that calls itself an inn for walking the town and hopping between the public baths. It sits up a short slope from Dogo Onsen Honkan. Before you book, three things matter: its two large baths draw water piped from Dogo Onsen; guests with tattoos are asked not to use them; and every meal is served next door at its sister hotel, Hanayuzuki, with dinner starting no later than 19:00.

Honto check: Every rule and figure below is from Hotel Katsuragi’s official Japanese and English pages and its official booking page, plus Matsuyama City for the bathing tax, read on October 14, 2026. We have not stayed there. Deliberately not stated: the regular parking fee and the bedding for a third guest in the Japanese-modern room, where the official pages give different details; airport or station pickup, a latest arrival time for room-only stays, a curfew, and vegetarian or halal options, which the official pages do not mention.

Where is Hotel Katsuragi in Dogo?

The hotel describes its spot simply: walk up the Furusagi-zaka slope from Dogo Onsen Honkan and you are there. One plan on its booking page calls the Honkan about a 1-minute walk, and the lounges on the 3rd and 4th floors look down on the Honkan. The hotel lists Isaniwa Shrine at about 4 minutes on foot and Enmanji temple at about 3.

How do I get there from the station or airport?

From JR Matsuyama Station, take the streetcar to the end of the line at Dogo Onsen (about 20 minutes) and walk about 5 minutes, or take a taxi (about 15 minutes). From Matsuyama Airport, the limousine bus to Dogo Onsen Station takes about 40 minutes and a taxi about 30. The official pages do not mention a pickup service.

Is there parking?

There are 12 spaces in a multi-level car park in front of the entrance, and parking is charged per car. When you book on the official site, the first car parks free. Ask the hotel about large vehicles. There is a long slope up to the entrance.

The Dogo Onsen baths at Hotel Katsuragi

When are the baths open?

The two large baths, Shirasagi no Yu (decorated in ukiyo-e style) and Taishi no Yu (where a figure of the monk Kobo Daishi greets you), are open 6:00–9:30 and 15:00–23:00, with a break for cleaning. Men and women swap between evening and morning, so you can try both. The water is an alkaline simple spring, piped from Dogo Onsen. Shampoo, conditioner, body soap, face towels, hair dryers and free lockers are provided; bring the bath towel from your room.

Can I use the rooftop bath next door?

Sister hotel Hanayuzuki has a rooftop open-air bath with the same hours. It is free on plans that include the bath-hopping perk, so check whether yours does.

Can I bathe with a tattoo?

No. The official FAQ says guests with tattoos are asked not to use the baths, and there is no private or family bath. Every room has its own bath, but it is not hot-spring water. Our tattoo and onsen guide covers your options in Japan.

All rooms have Wi-Fi, a TV, air conditioning and an empty fridge. Skincare items, toothbrushes, razors and more are at a help-yourself counter by the front desk, and yukata for adults and children (90, 110 and 130 cm) are on each floor. A 5th-floor food room has a microwave and hot water. The hotel says it is not barrier-free: you can move around in a wheelchair, but the rooms are not wheelchair accessible.

Meals at Hotel Katsuragi

What are dinner and breakfast like?

Meals are served in the Hanayuzuki dining room next door. Dinner is a main dish plus a buffet of mostly Japanese food from Ehime: the main is Iyo beef and Hime pork steaks you grill yourself, red sea bream shabu-shabu, or Iyo beef hot pot, depending on the plan, and the buffet has two styles of sea-bream rice to compare. On busy days the hotel may serve a 10-course set meal instead. Soft drinks are free at dinner. Breakfast is a Japanese-style buffet with dishes such as bowls of whitebait from the Iyo Sea and Ehime citrus. For more local dishes, see our Matsuyama food guide.

What are the meal times?

Dinner runs 18:00–21:00 with the last start at 19:00; breakfast runs 7:00–9:00 with the last start at 8:30. The hotel cannot serve a meal after the last start, so call if you will be late.

Can the hotel handle allergies or a special diet?

The FAQ says it will do what it can if you ask in advance, and the buffet is labeled for allergens. The official pages do not mention vegetarian or halal meals.

Prices, children and cancellation

How much does a stay cost?

With two adults sharing, the official booking page started at 8,910 yen per adult room only, 10,890 yen with breakfast and 15,950 yen with dinner and breakfast, tax included, before dates are chosen. Booking on the official site also takes 500 yen per adult off dinner-and-breakfast plans. On top, Matsuyama charges a bathing tax of 150 yen per adult per night, which the hotel collects separately; the city exempts children under 12. See our onsen bathing tax guide.

What do children cost?

Elementary school children pay 70 percent of the adult rate, with adult-style meals and a futon. Infants with meals and bedding pay 50 percent and get a kids’ plate (Western by default; ask for Japanese when you book). Other infant options depend on the plan.

What is the cancellation policy?

The standard rule is 30 percent of the room charge from 3 days before, 50 percent the day before, and 100 percent on the day or for a no-show, with flexibility in an emergency. A plan’s own rule takes priority. Our hotel cancellation guide explains how these fees work.

How do I pay?

The booking page offers payment at the hotel or online by card, with no deposit. At the hotel, JCB, Visa and Mastercard are accepted.
