Hotel Granvia Kyoto is the hotel built into JR Kyoto Station: its lobby sits on the second floor of the station building, an escalator ride from the central ticket gates, with the Shinkansen, JR local lines, the subway and Kintetsu all under the same roof and Kyoto Tower across the street. It is run by JR West Hotels, and its rules are split between an English FAQ and the group’s Japanese terms: check-in 15:00, checkout 12:00, free cancellation until 16:00 the day before on official-site bookings, children 6 and under free in a shared bed or crib, a pool and gym for adults at 1,000 yen a visit, no parking of its own, and a lobby that is not on the first floor.
Everything below is from the hotel’s official English FAQ, the Japanese pages for services, breakfast, the Granvia Floor and access, and the JR West Hotels accommodation terms. Room rates are not here; the hours, fees and rules the hotel publishes are.

What is Hotel Granvia Kyoto, and which room should I book?

The station hotel of Kyoto, opened with the current station building and owned by JR West, occupying the upper floors above the central concourse. Rooms run from Standard and Superior through Suites, with Triple, Family and Universal (accessible) rooms, and a Granvia Floor whose guests check in and out in a private lounge that serves food and drinks by time of day, with alcohol from 17:00 to 19:30. Every room has Wi-Fi and a wired connection, and the amenity list runs to yukata, a body-wash towel, shower cap and hairband beside the usual toiletries. There are no connecting rooms; families get adjoining or nearby rooms when available. Requests for non-smoking, double beds, adjoining, high or low floors and views are taken but not guaranteed.
What is in the room, and what is in the building?
The FAQ’s amenity list: toothbrush, hairbrush, razor, comb, cotton swabs, hairband, shower cap, cotton balls, shampoo, conditioner, soap, body shampoo, slippers, yukata, a body-wash towel, towels and a hair dryer. Internet is free Wi-Fi (802.11ac) and wired at up to 1 Gbps in every room, with Wi-Fi in the lobby. Downstairs and around the lobby are the buffet restaurant Le Temps, the Japanese restaurant Ukihashi, the guesthouse-style Shiokoji Rakusui, the lobby lounge Grand Jour, the main bar Orbit, a pastry and bakery shop, a hotel shop, jewelry and eyewear shops and several clinics, plus a laundry service and evening newspapers.
Where exactly is the entrance?
On the second floor, which the Japanese access page repeats twice because people look for it on the first. From the JR central gates, the escalator immediately to the right goes up to the main lobby. From the west gates, the Shinkansen central gates or the Kintetsu central gates, walk the north-south free passage, take the escalator on the right and pass through the Japanese restaurant street. From the subway, head toward the JR central exit and up the escalator. Wheelchair users can be met at any ticket gate and guided by staff-operated elevators and escalators if they send an arrival time, and escorted back after checkout.
What is the Granvia Floor?
The club-floor category: Granvia Deluxe and Granvia Family rooms with access to the Granvia Lounge, where check-in and checkout are done at a table and a buffet of food and drinks changes through the day, alcoholic drinks between 17:00 and 19:30. It is sold as its own set of plans.
Check-in at 15:00, checkout at noon

What are the hours?
The JR West Hotels terms print a table by hotel: Hotel Granvia Kyoto, 15:00 to 12:00 noon, a later checkout than the group’s Vischio hotels at 11:00. On consecutive nights the room is yours all day in between. A guest who has not arrived by 22:00 without contact, or two hours after an arrival time they gave, may be treated as having canceled.
Can I leave luggage, or send it ahead?
The cloakroom on the second floor stores belongings before check-in and after checkout. Bags can be sent ahead addressed to Hotel Granvia Kyoto, c/o Front Desk, JR Kyoto Station Building, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto 600-8216, labeled with your name and arrival date, and souvenirs can be shipped home from the hotel for a fee; our luggage forwarding guide covers the counters. Arriving from the airport, the HARUKA from Kansai Airport ends at this station, and from Tokyo the shinkansen does too.
What does the concierge do?
The desk in the second-floor lobby, open 8:00 to 17:00, handles seasonal sightseeing information and bookings; the hotel announced in December 2025 that a member of Les Clefs d’Or joined it. A 24-hour PC booth for guests prints up to ten A3 pages free, a massage service runs 16:00 to 1:30 for a fee, and laundry and newspaper services are listed. How to split the days is in our how many days in Kyoto guide.

| Groups of 100 and more | 20 days 10%, 9 days 20%, day before 80%, same day and no-show 100%. |
Official FAQ and terms, read September 17, 2026. Shortening a stay costs one night’s fee; plans may carry special terms.
Which one applies to me?
The FAQ’s 16:00-the-day-before rule is described as a preferential term for bookings made on the hotel’s own site; the group terms are the default the hotel can fall back on, and each plan can set its own dates and fees. Treat the plan conditions on your confirmation as the rule, and if they are silent, expect the 16:00 cutoff on a direct booking. Offers cannot be combined.
Children: free at 6 and under, sharing a bed or in a crib
A child aged 6 or under who sleeps in a parent’s bed or in a crib stays free. Cribs are free but must be requested in advance, and the hotel puts a diaper disposal unit in every room. A child who needs a bed of their own is charged as an adult. Family and Triple rooms exist for that case.
Is breakfast charged for children?
Yes, at the buffet: 2,500 yen for elementary-school children and 1,250 yen from age 3, against 5,000 yen for adults. Under 3 is not priced on the page.
Breakfast, pool and gym, and the station car park

Where is breakfast, and what does it cost?
Cafe Restaurant Le Temps on the second floor serves a buffet 6:30 to 10:00 of more than 50 Japanese and Western dishes, roast wagyu, yuba simmered in soy milk, omelets cooked to order and Kyoto tofu among them, at 5,000 yen for adults, 2,500 for elementary-school children and 1,250 from age 3, with 10 percent off for JR Hotel Members and WESTER point members. The Japanese restaurant Ukihashi serves a Japanese breakfast, and room service delivers one.
Can I swim?
Yes, in the hotel’s heated pool, with a gym, jacuzzi and steam room, for 1,000 yen before tax per visit, ages 18 and over, 7:00 to 21:00 with admission until 20:00.
Where do I park?
The hotel has no car park. Guests use the Kyoto Station Building garages at 2,000 yen per night, registering the car by taking the parking ticket to the front desk; no reservations. West No. 1 is open 6:00 to 24:00, West No. 2 and East No. 1 (B3) around the clock, with limits of 2.1 meters high and 5 meters long. Public rates are 800 yen for the first hour, 400 yen per 30 minutes after that, 200 yen per hour from midnight to 6:00, and a 3,000-yen daily maximum on weekdays only. The Meishin expressway’s Kyoto-Minami exit is about 20 minutes away and Kyoto-Higashi about 30.
How can I pay, and can I change money?
Diners, American Express, JCB, Visa, UC, Nicos, DC, Mastercard and China UnionPay. A currency-exchange machine in the lobby works 24 hours, changing US, Australian, Hong Kong and Taiwan dollars, euros, pounds, won and yuan into yen. The hotel also joined the Kyoto Points (Kyopo) scheme in July 2026.
What changed with the hotel tax?
The hotel’s news page carries a notice on the change to Kyoto City’s accommodation-tax system from March 1, 2026. The tax is levied per person per night on the room rate and collected at the hotel; the hotel’s pages do not print the new bands, so read the plan conditions or the city’s schedule before you total the bill.
What is around the station?
Kyoto Tower faces the central exit across Karasuma-dori, the Kyoto Railway Museum is a walk west along the tracks, and the hotel’s own restaurants sit inside the station building, so a rainy evening never leaves the roof: the Japanese access page makes the point that the hotel is reached without getting wet. The concierge desk hands out seasonal sightseeing information, and the north-south passage through the station connects the Shinkansen side to the bus terminal on the Kyoto Tower side.
Who Hotel Granvia Kyoto is for
Anyone arriving or leaving by train who wants zero transfer, families with children under 7 who can share a bed, and rail travelers heading on to Osaka, Nara or the railway museum next door. Look up at Kyoto Tower from the lobby windows and remember the lobby is upstairs.
(How this compares: our hotel pool fees table of 29 hotels starts the paid pools with Hotel Granvia Kyoto at 1,100 yen per visit, against a median of 3,300 yen for the 17 paid pools.)
