Dogo Onsen Yachiyo is an inn in Dogo Onsen, Matsuyama, whose operating company was founded in 1952. It calls itself a “second house” where guests are welcomed like family, and all 28 rooms come with an open-air bath fed with Dogo’s hot-spring water. Before you book, three things matter: both meals are served in your room, with allergy requests closing 3 days before your stay; the bedroom has mattresses on a raised wooden floor, not beds; and the official booking page is in Japanese only.

What are dinner and breakfast like?

The inn keeps an old ryokan custom: dinner and breakfast are both served in your room, in a separate dining room within the suite. Dinner is the head chef’s omakase course of Seto Inland Sea seafood and local vegetables, with ingredients ordered the same morning, and dishes come one at a time at your own pace. Examples on the official food page include Ehime pork braised for 6 hours, a sea bream rice dish, and the house stew in pastry, a recipe passed down at the inn. The stew is not part of the special Miyabi course but can be ordered for 1,760 yen (tax included) by the day before. Breakfast is a Japanese set meal, served 7:30 to 9:00, and dinner ends by 20:00. For eating out in town, see our Matsuyama food guide.

Can the inn handle allergies or a special diet?

Tell the inn about food allergies, pregnancy diet limits or foods you cannot eat when you book or at least 3 days before your stay. Requests after that, or on the day, cannot be handled. The inn tries to remove allergens but cannot guarantee it, and may decline to serve a meal if that is a risk for you. Taste preferences other than allergies are not adjusted, and the official pages do not mention vegetarian or halal meals.

Rooms and baths at Dogo Onsen Yachiyo

What is inside a room?

Each suite has three spaces: a tatami living room, a bedroom and a dining room. The bedroom is a wooden floor raised one step above the living room, with mattresses about 10 cm thick; the rooms page states plainly that there are no rooms with beds. The booking page lists a Western-style toilet, an air purifier, Wi-Fi, a tablet in each room and free colored yukata. The open-air bath in each room was renovated in August 2026 with a non-slip floor and new handrails, and bath stools and kids’ bath chairs can be borrowed in limited numbers.

When is the large bath open?

Besides the room bath, the large baths have an indoor bath, an open-air bath and a jacuzzi, all using water piped from Dogo Onsen, an alkaline simple spring. Hours are 15:00 to 24:00 (last entry 23:30) and 5:30 to 10:30 (last entry 10:00). The open-air bath was redone in August 2026 with partly hinoki cypress tubs and tatami flooring. Only face towels are provided there, so bring the bath towel from your room.

Can I bathe with a tattoo?

The official pages do not mention tattoos. Your room bath is private, but ask the inn before using the large bath. Our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.

Prices, children and cancellation at Dogo Onsen Yachiyo

How much does a stay cost?

The official web-only plan, with dinner and breakfast in a 55.8 m² room, starts at 35,200 yen per person for two sharing, tax included; the inn says this is 5,000 yen per person below its standard plan. Its terms list a service charge and the bathing tax as part of the total, but the booking page does not say whether they are in the price shown. Matsuyama charges a bathing tax of 150 yen per person per day, with under-12s exempt; see our onsen bathing tax guide.

What do children cost?

Under the inn’s terms, the child rate applies to elementary school age and younger: 70 percent of the adult rate with adult meals and bedding, and 50 percent with a children’s meal and bedding. Infants with no meal or bedding pay a facility fee. Kids’ amenities, a baby soap and a kids’ chair can be set in the room, and a bouncer can be borrowed if you ask ahead.

What is the cancellation policy?

For bookings of up to 14 people, the terms list 30 percent of the basic rate from 3 days before, 50 percent the day before, 70 percent on the day, and 100 percent for a no-show. Online changes and cancellations are accepted until 15:00 on the day of stay; check the fee shown for your plan. See our hotel cancellation guide.

How do I pay?

The booking page says payment is made at the inn. The terms mention credit cards, but the official pages do not list which brands.
