Oyado Kokoro Takayama · Private Baths, Rooms
Guide·October 22, 2026·11 min read·Sourced & cross-checked

Oyado Kokoro is a small inn in Takayama, Gifu, with nine rooms, four Japanese-style and five Western twins, and an izakaya on the ground floor. Its own line is a place where “heart and body loosen,” and the Japanese page promises hospitality that stays close to each guest. Before you book, three things matter: the three private baths are free but slots are claimed on a board at the inn, not in advance; the inn does not accept young children; and the last check-in is 21:00.

Deliberately not stated: the room-only price and the cancellation percentages, which differ between the Japanese and English pages; the tattoo rule, breakfast, dietary options, room capacity and whether rooms have their own bath, which the official pages do not give.

How do the private baths at Oyado Kokoro work?

There is no large shared bath. Instead, the inn has three private baths, two of them with an open-air bath, and all three are free for guests. They can be used around the clock, with one rule for the busy hours.

How do I reserve a slot?

From 15:00 to midnight, the baths run on reservations. Next to the bath entrance there is a reservation board; once you have checked in, you pick a free time and reserve it yourself, up to 45 minutes per group. Guests choose in the order they check in, and the inn does not take reservations in advance, so an early check-in gives you the widest choice. After midnight, you can use any free bath without a slot. For how other inns handle private-bath fees, see our private bath fees guide.

Are all three baths open every day?

Not always. The inn notes that on some winter weekdays not every private bath is in use. If a particular open-air bath matters to you, ask before a winter stay.

Can I bathe with a tattoo?

The official pages do not mention tattoos. The baths are private, but ask the inn directly if you want to be sure.

Shampoo, conditioner, body soap, razors and cotton swabs are in the baths. Bath and face towels are in the room, and cleansing oil, face wash, lotion, a shower cap, a hairbrush and a yukata are available at the front desk.

Which room should I pick at Oyado Kokoro?

Japanese-style or Western twin?

The four Japanese-style rooms are 10 tatami mats, and the inn suggests them for families and groups. The five Western-style twins are aimed at couples and two friends traveling together. Every room is non-smoking with free Wi-Fi. The official pages do not give the number of guests per room or say whether rooms have their own bath; ask the inn if you need to know.

What is in the room?

The list includes an auto-lock door, air conditioning and heating, a warm-water bidet toilet, a washbasin, a hair dryer, a TV, a phone, a safe, a fridge, an electric kettle, cups and glasses, plus a toothbrush and hand soap. There is no elevator, so plan for stairs with heavy bags.

Is dinner included?

No. The inn sells a room-only plan. On the 1st floor, Izakaya Kokoro is open to guests and non-guests from 17:00 to 21:00, with last order at 20:30. The Japanese menu lists Hida beef at 1,800 yen per 100 g, a Hida beef skewer at 800 yen, hoba miso grilled with Hida beef and rice at 2,000 yen, and Takayama ramen at 700 yen, with local sake from 600 yen per 180 ml. All menu prices include tax.

What about breakfast and special diets?

The official pages do not mention breakfast, allergies or vegetarian options. A microwave in the 1st-floor lobby is available, so you can heat food you bring back. Ask the izakaya about ingredients if you have an allergy.

Price, children, cancellation and payment at Oyado Kokoro

How much is a night?

The inn sells a room-only plan with tax included, and the private baths and parking cost nothing extra. The starting price is shown differently on the Japanese and English pages, so check the rate for your dates with the inn. Takayama also charges an accommodation tax per person per night: 100 yen if the room-only rate is under 10,000 yen, 200 yen from 10,000 yen and 300 yen from 30,000 yen. Children up to the end of elementary school are exempt, and each inn decides whether to collect it in advance or on site; the inn’s pages do not say which applies here.

Can I bring children?

The inn does not accept young children. The Japanese and English pages describe the age limit in different words, so if you travel with a child of about 10 to 12, contact the inn first.

What is the cancellation policy?

Fees start on the day before arrival, but the percentages are listed differently on the Japanese and English pages. Confirm the rule when you book, and keep it in writing. Our hotel cancellation guide explains what to ask.

How do I pay?

The inn lists Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express and Diners.
