Miyajima Jukeiso (Jukeiso) is an inn on a hill on Miyajima, Hiroshima, looking down on Itsukushima Shrine and the island’s temples. In its own words, it is proud of its seasonal kaiseki of Seto Inland Sea produce and its views, especially at night. Before you book, three things matter: the private open-air bath is free but booked at check-in; dinner starts by 19:00, so check-in closes at 18:00; and Hiroshima’s lodging tax is paid in cash at checkout.

Getting to Miyajima Jukeiso on Miyajima
Is there a shuttle from the ferry pier?
Yes. On the day you arrive, the shuttle runs from 15:00 as needed; the inn says the wait is shorter if you call before you board the ferry. The next morning it runs every 30 minutes from 8:00 to 10:00. The official pages give different walking times from the pier, so ask the inn if you plan to walk. For the ferry itself, see our Hiroshima to Miyajima guide.
What about luggage and cars?
If you leave bags in a coin locker, hand the key over at check-in and staff will collect them; the locker fee is yours. Drivers are advised that parking at Miyajimaguchi, on the mainland, is convenient. From the inn, the booking page lists the aquarium about 3 minutes on foot, Itsukushima Shrine about 5, the five-story pagoda about 10 and Momijidani Park about 14. Our Miyajima guide covers the island itself.

The baths at Miyajima Jukeiso
How does the private open-air bath work?
Just to the right as you leave the entrance is a private open-air view bath facing the shrine and the great torii. It is free for 30 minutes; book a slot at check-in, first come, first served on the day. In busy periods, guests who arrive late may not get a slot.
Are there shared baths?
Yes, one indoor bath each for men and women, with a fish tank in the bathroom. The official pages do not say the water is from a hot spring.
Can I bathe with a tattoo?
The official pages do not mention tattoos, so ask the inn before you book. Our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.
Meals at Miyajima Jukeiso

What are dinner and breakfast like?
Dinner is seasonal kaiseki at the inn’s restaurant, Heike, at 18:00, 18:30 or 19:00, and the inn describes dining while looking at the lit-up great torii. On shrine event and fireworks days it can be ready from 17:30. Breakfast is a Japanese set meal at 7:30, 8:00 or 8:30, also at Heike. Lunch is served there from 11:30 to 14:00 by reservation.
Can the inn handle allergies or a special diet?
Vegetarian meals are available with advance booking. For allergies, the inn says it does what it can and asks you to contact it in advance. If you do not eat oysters, tell the inn beforehand; changes are not made on the day.
