MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East is an apartment hotel at 4-26-3 Higashiueno, a 3-minute walk from the Iriya Exit of JR Ueno Station, where every room has a kitchen and sleeps up to four adults. Before you book, know five rules: the hotel’s terms charge 100 percent from 7 days before arrival; arriving after the 22:00 desk closing without telling the hotel can cancel the booking; the Tokyo accommodation tax is paid separately at the hotel; there is no breakfast and no restaurant; and you are asked to bring your own toothbrush and slippers.
MIMARU runs three other hotels with Ueno in the name, and its own walking map warns guests not to go to the wrong one. To compare the brand’s other properties, see our MIMARU hotels guide.

Where is MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East, and how do I get there?

Which station is closest?
The hotel gives a 3-minute walk from the Iriya Exit of JR Ueno Station on the Yamanote Line, and 5 minutes from Exit 1 of Ueno Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza and Hibiya lines. Its walking-route PDF says to leave the JR station by the Asakusa side, or the Keisei station by the central gate, and follow the street toward the Iriya Exit. For a morning nearby, see our Ueno Park guide.
How long from the airports?
The hotel lists about 55 minutes from Narita Airport by the Skyliner, which arrives at Keisei Ueno, and from Haneda about 45 minutes by train or 35 minutes by train and monorail. It does not run an airport shuttle.
Is there parking?
No. The FAQ says MIMARU has no dedicated parking; the front desk can point you to nearby car parks, and you pay their fees yourself.
Which room should I book at MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East?
| Room | Size | Beds | Guests |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apartment (studio) | 38 m² | 4 single beds | 4 adults + 2 children |
| Family Apartment | 39 m² | 2 single beds and a bunk bed | 4 adults + 2 children |
| Pokémon Room | 40 m² | 4 single beds | 4 adults + 2 children |
| Japanese Apartment | 40 m² | 2 single beds and 2 futons | 4 adults + 2 children |
| Connecting Japanese Apartment | 78 m² | 6 single beds and 2 futons | 8 adults + 4 children |
Official room pages (Japanese and English), read October 5, 2026. Children are aged 6 or under.
Every room has a bathtub, with the washbasin in its own space, and the connecting room has two of each. You cannot choose the layout of the Family Apartment. The Pokémon Room, the hotel says, greets you with 100 Pokémon, and guests receive a Pokémon Room gift; the design varies by room and cannot be chosen. No room has a washer-dryer, and the pages do not mention extra beds, so book the room that fits your whole group. For other options, see our family hotels in Tokyo guide.
What is in the kitchen?
An IH stove, fridge, microwave, electric kettle, pots, a frying pan, knife, cutting board, tableware, cutlery, dish soap, coffee and tea. There is no oven or rice cooker on the list. The FAQ says rice cookers, toasters and extra tableware can be borrowed, but adds that what each hotel lends differs, so ask Ueno East before you count on one.
What should I bring?
The bathroom has body soap, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and towels, and the room has a hair dryer, safe, TV, air purifier with humidifier and free Wi-Fi. But to reduce waste, the hotel asks you to bring your own toothbrush and slippers; ask at the front desk if you need them. Pajamas appear on the FAQ’s list of items to borrow, not in the room.
Check-in, late arrival and checkout at MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East
What time are check-in and checkout?
The terms set the front desk hours at 7:00 to 22:00, check-in from 15:00 to 22:00 and checkout from 7:00 to 11:00. The FAQ says you can check in before 15:00 if your room is ready, but early check-in cannot be guaranteed. A companion can check in first by giving the name on the booking; the hotel also checks the identity of anyone arriving later.
What if I land late?
Tell the hotel. The FAQ says check-in after 22:00 is possible if you let the hotel know in advance. The terms add that if you have not arrived by the time the front desk closes, or by the arrival time you gave, without contacting the hotel, it may treat the booking as canceled. Unlike some hotels, the terms give no two-hour grace after a stated arrival time. The hotel’s email is ueno-east@chm.cigr.co.jp and its phone number is 03-5811-1677.
How much is late checkout?
The FAQ offers late checkout at 3,000 yen an hour between 11:00 and 18:00, depending on availability on the day. The Japanese FAQ says checkouts outside the set hours may carry a fee; the English FAQ says they will. Our late checkout guide compares other hotels.
What do I need at check-in?
The terms ask guests from outside Japan with no address in Japan for their nationality, passport number and date of entry. Guests under 18 staying without a parent need a parent or guardian to sign a consent form on the hotel’s touch-panel system. The house rules say the hotel may take a deposit on arrival.
Canceling a MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East booking
What does it cost to cancel?
These are the hotel’s standard terms, from Attached Table 2 of the Japanese terms of stay:
| When you cancel | Charge |
|---|---|
| From 7 days before through the day of arrival | 100% |
| No-show | 100% |
Attached Table 2 of the official terms of stay (Japanese), read October 5, 2026. No charge is listed earlier than that. The percentage applies to the basic room charge.
The terms add that rates are set separately for New Year and Christmas, and that plans, groups and special conditions may have different fees. Shortening a stay costs the nights you cut.
If you booked on the official site, you can change the dates yourself, though the new dates may cost more, and changing the number of guests within the room’s capacity does not change the price. Our hotel cancellation guide explains how fees work across Japan.
Taxes, payment and booking direct at MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East

Is the accommodation tax included?
No. Attached Table 1 of the terms says the local accommodation tax is collected separately at the hotel and sends you to the local government’s page. The terms list no service charge. Tokyo’s tax bureau gives these rates, per person per night:
| Room charge per person per night | Tax now | From April 1, 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Under 10,000 yen | None | None under 13,000 yen |
| 10,000 to 14,999 yen | 100 yen | 3% from 13,000 yen |
| 15,000 yen or more | 200 yen | 3% |
Tokyo Metropolitan Government tax bureau, read October 5, 2026. The bureau says the tax may be paid at the front desk, separate from the travel price.
Because the tax is per person, splitting a room among four can keep each share under the line; the hotel does not say how it calculates this, so we do not estimate it.
How can I pay?
The house rules accept cash or credit card, may ask for a deposit on arrival, and do not take traveler’s checks. We could not read which QR or e-money payments are accepted.
Is booking direct cheaper?
MIMARU calls the official site rate its best rate and asks you to send a screenshot within 24 hours of booking if you find it cheaper elsewhere under the same conditions. Members get 10 percent off the Best Rate plan and 1,000 points a night; bookings on other sites do not count. Receipts come from the official site only for bookings made there.
Kids and families at MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East

Do children count toward the room capacity?
Up to two children aged 6 or under per room are not counted toward capacity, according to the FAQ; from age 7, children count as adults. The English FAQ adds that they can share a bed with an adult; the Japanese FAQ does not say so. The pages do not list children’s rates.
Are cots available?
Yes, free, for children under 2, in limited numbers: write “baby crib rental” in the request box when you book. Bed guards are also free to borrow. The Japanese FAQ says under 2; the English FAQ says ages 2 and below, so ask if your child has just turned 2. The 1st-floor accessible toilet has a diaper-changing table and a baby chair, and every room has an electric kettle.
Cleaning, laundry and luggage at MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East
How often is the room cleaned?
Towels and bath mats are changed every day. The house rules set full cleaning, of the bathroom, floor and beds, every other day, first on the third night, and the kitchen is not cleaned for you. The FAQ lists vacuuming as daily; we follow the house rules. Extra cleaning costs extra and must be booked at the front desk. Sort your trash, and if you leave a suitcase behind to throw away, the hotel charges 3,500 yen per piece.
Is there laundry?
Yes. The accessibility PDF lists 3 washers and 3 dryers on the 1st floor, top-loading, with detergent not included, and the FAQ says coin laundries run 24 hours for a fee. The pages do not give the price.
Can I leave my bags?
Yes, free from 7:00 to 22:00 on your check-in and checkout days. Outside those hours, or on other days, it costs 500 yen per bag per day, space permitting, and the hotel will not keep valuables, fragile items or food. If you send bags ahead, use the name on your booking and set delivery for your check-in day or later, since earlier arrivals may incur storage fees. To send bags on, ask by the day before checkout; MIMARU uses Japan Post, private couriers or its own Luggage Delivery by MIMARU. See our hotel luggage storage guide.
House rules at MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East
What are the rules on smoking and pets?
The whole hotel is non-smoking except designated smoking areas. If staff find cigarette butts or smell smoke, the house rules charge 30,000 yen to deodorize the room. No pets are allowed except guide dogs and service dogs, and taking photos for commercial purposes without permission is not allowed.
Is there anything else to know?
In a notice of September 29, 2026, MIMARU said guest data in its reservation system may have leaked, for bookings made by September 21, 2026, with stays on or after that date, and warned of fake messages by email or WhatsApp. It says it does not hold card data and never asks for payment through a link without good reason. If you get such a message, contact the hotel directly.
Who MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East suits
Families and groups of up to four adults, or eight in the connecting room, who want a kitchen, a bathtub and a station a few minutes away, and travelers coming in on the Skyliner from Narita. It is a harder fit for anyone whose plans may change inside a week, for guests who want breakfast in the hotel, and for late arrivals who cannot contact the hotel before 22:00.
