Atarashiya is a small ryokan in Yuwaku Onsen, the hot-spring village that the inn calls the inner retreat of Kanazawa. The official site calls it an inn with 250 years of history and eight rooms in a pure Japanese style. Before you book, three things matter: dinner is Kanazawa kaiseki served in your room; the new Kuro Sauna is free for guests but has separate hours for men and women; and most practical details, from prices to check-in, are not on the website, so plan to ask the inn directly.

What should I ask Atarashiya before booking?

| Baths | Spring type and sauna hours | Bath hours, private bath, tattoos |
| Food | Kaiseki dinner in the room | Breakfast, allergies, vegetarian meals |

Getting to Atarashiya in Yuwaku Onsen

How do I take the bus from Kanazawa Station?
The official site calls the Hokutetsu bus the easiest way. From stop 7 at the east exit bus terminal of JR Kanazawa Station, take a bus bound for Yuwaku Onsen and ride to the last stop, Yuwaku Onsen. The ride is about 40 minutes, the site says there are more than 10 buses a day, and the inn is about 3 minutes on foot from the stop. Check the return times before you go.
Can I come by taxi or car?
A taxi from JR Kanazawa Station takes about 30 minutes. By car, the inn is about 30 minutes from central Kanazawa, or about 20 minutes from the Kanazawa-Higashi interchange of the Hokuriku Expressway via Route 157. Parking is free; the site does not give the number of spaces. A pickup service is not mentioned.
How far is it from the sights of Kanazawa?
The site gives driving times of about 20 minutes to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, about 25 minutes to Kenrokuen and about 30 minutes to the Higashi Chaya district. For a day in the city before or after your stay, see our things to do in Kanazawa guide.
The hot spring and Kuro Sauna at Atarashiya

What is the water like?
The site says Yuwaku Onsen has a history of about 1,300 years, and describes its water as a sodium-calcium chloride and sulfate spring that is gentle on the skin and warms you to the core. It does not describe the bath itself: whether there is an outdoor bath, a private bath, or what hours the baths are open. Ask the inn.
When can I use the Kuro Sauna?
The Kuro Sauna is the inn’s newest feature, which the site describes as modern sauna equipment combined with traditional Japanese elements. For overnight guests it alternates by gender, at no extra charge:
- Women: 16:30 to 21:00
- Men: 21:30 to 24:00, and 6:00 to 8:00
If you are traveling as a mixed couple, plan around these windows. The site also mentions body and skin care items from the spa brand DAMAI for guests to try.
Can I bathe with a tattoo?
The official site does not mention tattoos. Ask the inn before you book; our tattoo and onsen guide explains how to ask.
Meals at Atarashiya
What is dinner like?
Dinner is the inn’s own Atarashiya Kanazawa kaiseki, a kaiseki meal of fresh local ingredients that changes with the seasons, and it is served in your room. The site does not give the number of courses or the price.
What about breakfast and special diets?
The site does not describe breakfast, and it does not say whether the kitchen can handle allergies, vegetarian or other diets. Tell the inn about any needs when you book.
Prices, children, cancellation and payment at Atarashiya
How much does a stay cost?
The official site shows no prices or plans; it says reservations are taken by phone or online. Ask the inn for the current rate and what it includes. On top of the rate, Kanazawa charges a bathing tax of 150 yen per guest per night at hot springs, and an accommodation tax per guest per night of 200 yen when the room charge is 5,000 yen or more but under 20,000 yen, and 500 yen from 20,000 yen. The city counts the room charge before consumption tax and without meals. See our onsen bathing tax guide.
What do children cost, and what is the cancellation policy?
Neither is on the official site. Ask about children’s rates and the cancellation rule before you confirm, and keep the answer in writing if you can. Our hotel cancellation guide explains the terms you may hear.
How do I pay?
Payment methods are not stated. Ask whether cards are accepted, and carry some cash for the taxes.
