Oyado Nonohana Kurokawa Onsen · Private Baths
Guide·October 14, 2026·9 min read·Sourced & cross-checked

Oyado Nonohana is an inn of just eight rooms in the hills of Oku-Kurokawa, away from the main street of Kurokawa Onsen in Kumamoto. Its English page puts it simply: just listen, and all you hear is nature. Before you book, three things matter: every room has its own hot-spring bath; six of the eight rooms take no children; and stays are one night only.

For another inn in the same town, see our guide to Ryokan Sanga.

We have not stayed there. Where the English page disagrees with the Japanese page, we use the Japanese and the booking page. Deliberately not stated: room sizes (shown only as images), the tattoo rule, any pickup service, which cards are taken and allergy options, none of which the official pages give in text.

What is the water like?

Every room’s bath runs 100 percent free-flowing hot spring from the inn’s own source. The English page describes it as a simple hot spring at 68°C. Rooms also have Wi-Fi, a TV with free films, a Blu-ray player, a small fridge and a toilet with a bidet seat.

Is there a shared bath?

Yes. Ginnezu-no-yu, an outdoor bath overlooking the Minamioguni stream, is also open to day visitors at 800 yen for adults; the Japanese site gives two different sets of hours, so ask. Suoh is the barrier-free room, and the way into the dining hall is step-free too. The official pages do not mention tattoos; see our tattoo and onsen guide.

Meals at Oyado Nonohana

What is dinner like?

Dinner is a creative kaiseki of mostly Kumamoto ingredients, served in a private dining room. On the current booking plan you choose the main dish when you book, either Higo beef sukiyaki or Rindo pork in an “unkai” hot pot, and it cannot be changed on the day. Breakfast is a Japanese set of seasonal vegetables. The pages do not say how allergies are handled, so write any needs in the booking notes and ask.

How much does a stay cost?

Prices are per person per night with dinner and breakfast. The booking page starts at 34,100 yen in a cottage, 31,900 yen in Hanezu and 28,600 yen in the main house. The Japanese site adds 2,200 yen before holidays. The booking page asks for the bathing tax of 150 yen per adult separately; Minamioguni charges it per person per day and exempts under-15s (Minamioguni Town). See our onsen bathing tax guide.

What is the cancellation policy?

No deposit is needed. Cancellation costs 30 percent from 7 to 2 days before, 50 percent the day before, and 100 percent on the day or for a no-show. See our hotel cancellation guide.

What else should I know before booking?

Stays are one night only. Children can stay only in Shion and Benifuji. Cards are accepted, and the booking page offers payment at the inn or online by card.

The English page says the inn is about an hour by bus or car from Aso Station, recommends driving, and asks guests coming by bus to contact the inn before they travel. Buses run to Kurokawa Onsen from bus companies such as Nishitetsu and Kyushu Sanko. The roads around the inn are narrow, parking holds 10 cars, and the inn asks you to call before arriving. From December to March the area can get snow, so drive with snow tires or chains.
