Hotel Universal Port is a 600-room hotel in Sakurajima, Konohana-ku, Osaka, about a 4-minute walk from Universal Studios Japan. Before you book, know five things: there is no early park entry (the hotel says that plan ended in October 2024); guests can buy USJ passes at a guests-only ticket counter, in cash or by credit card; only preschool children sharing a bed stay free, one per adult; breakfast costs 3,600 yen for adults from October 2, 2026; and canceling costs 20 percent the day before and 80 percent on the day.
Hotel Universal Port Vita is a separate sister hotel with its own address; the two share a website and FAQ, so we use only the answers given for Hotel Universal Port. It is also a different hotel from the Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios Japan.

Hotel Universal Port and Universal Studios Japan: tickets and perks

Does the hotel get you into the park early?
No. The hotel’s FAQ explains that early park entry was once available only on JTB and Rurubu Travel USJ plans, and says it “was discontinued in October 2024.” Do not book this hotel expecting that perk. For what the park itself offers, see our Universal Studios Japan guide.
Can I buy park tickets at the hotel?
Yes, if you are staying. The facility page lists ticket counters on the 1st and 2nd floors, both open 7:00 to 17:00, as a service for hotel guests only. They sell Studio Passes for the day of your stay and the next day: the 1-Day, 1.5-Day and 2-Day Studio Pass, the Twilight Pass and the discounted pass for people with disabilities. They do not sell the Birthday 1-Day Pass, the Universal Annual Pass or event-discount passes.
Can the hotel counter sell out?
The hotel’s pages disagree. The facility page says that if passes sell out in advance sales, the hotel counter does not sell them either. The FAQ says the guests-only 1-Day Pass does not sell out, while warning that entry can take a long time when the park limits admission. Plan as if tickets are subject to availability, and read our USJ tickets guide before you rely on the counter.
What about Express Passes?
The FAQ says the hotel sells Universal Express Passes for the same day or the next day only while stock lasts, and takes no reservations or holds. Another hotel page is blunter: buying one at the hotel on the day is difficult, and it recommends buying in advance on the USJ official website.
What other park perks does the hotel offer?
A monitor in the lobby shows ride waiting times, per the hotel’s perks page. A Universal Studios Store in the hotel opens 8:00 to 22:00, with hours that can change by season. Guests who book on the hotel’s official website, or stay in a Minion Room, get one collaboration item per person per stay (co-sleeping children and group tours excluded). The current item is a Minion slider pass case, handed out from early September 2026 while stocks last.

The FAQ says the Party Room takes up to 6 people, and two connecting rooms of the same type take up to 8. In the Port Superior and Port Deluxe rooms, a third guest gets a stacking bed 102 cm wide or a sofa bed 105 cm wide.
What are the Minion Rooms?
The hotel calls them “the only Minion Rooms in Japan”, in three types, and says they are only at Hotel Universal Port. Minion Room guests also get a laundry mesh pouch and an amenity pouch, handed out from September 30, 2026 while stocks last.
Can I choose a view or a floor?
You can ask. The FAQ describes three views: park side (toward Universal Studios Japan), harbor side (the Aji River and Osaka Port) and city side (Universal City Station). The view depends on the room type. The hotel takes floor and view requests when you book, but cannot always meet them.
What is on the top floor?
The Port Deep Ocean Floor is the 14th and top floor, per the floor page. Guests there can check in from 14:00 instead of 15:00 at a dedicated area, and the hotel says guests get priority seating at the breakfast buffet (you wait if it is full). Premium Palace guests park free, one car per room, on any plan.
What is in the rooms?
The FAQ says every room has a bathroom with a separate washing area, and the toilet and sink are separate, except in the barrier-free rooms. Standard rooms list a hair dryer, an electric kettle, an air purifier with a humidifier and an empty fridge. Toothbrushes and razors are at an amenity bar, not in the room. Free Wi-Fi covers the rooms and public areas. There is no pool.
Check-in, checkout and late arrival at Hotel Universal Port
What time are check-in and checkout?
Check-in is from 15:00 and checkout is by 11:00, per the facility page and the terms of stay. The hotel warns that the front desk is very busy from 15:00 to 17:00 and after the park closes. The FAQ says you can complete check-in formalities and leave bags at any time on the day, and rooms open from 15:00.
Can I check in early or check out late?
Not by request in advance. The FAQ says early check-in is not taken as a request beforehand, but on the day it may be possible for a fee if rooms allow; late checkout is the same. The terms of stay set the charge as a share of that day’s room rate:
| Extra time | Charge |
|---|---|
| Up to 3 hours | 30% of the day’s room rate |
| Up to 6 hours | 50% of the day’s room rate |
| More than 6 hours | 100% of the day’s room rate |
Appendix 6 of the official terms of stay, read September 30, 2026. No yen amount is published.
What if I arrive late at night?
What will the front desk ask for?
Article 8 of the terms asks guests who do not live in Japan for their nationality and passport number, and the hotel takes a copy of your passport. Guests under 18 staying without a parent must hand in a parental consent form.
Canceling a Hotel Universal Port booking
What does it cost to cancel?
For bookings on the official website, the FAQ lists 20 percent the day before, 80 percent on the day and 100 percent for a no-show. The terms of stay (dated March 31, 2026) give the full table:
| When you cancel | Up to 14 guests | 15 to 100 guests | 101 guests or more |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 days before | 0% | 0% | 10% |
| 10 days before | 0% | 10% | 20% |
| 7 days before | 0% | 50% | 50% |
| Day before | 20% | 80% | 80% |
| Same day | 80% | 80% | 100% |
| No-show | 100% | 100% | 100% |
Appendix 3 of the official terms of stay, read September 30, 2026.
The FAQ says bookings made anywhere other than the hotel’s website follow the booking site or plan, so check with whoever you booked through; the terms also allow different fees for the hotel’s own packages and for partner travel agencies, including online ones. For stays from June 1, 2026, the terms say cancellation fees are billed through a service called Payn. The English FAQ says the hotel does not take waitlists. Our hotel cancellation comparison shows other hotels’ cutoffs.
Kids and families at Hotel Universal Port
Do children stay free?
Only the youngest. The FAQ says only preschool children may share a bed, and limits it to one child per adult. A preschooler (0 to 6) who shares a bed stays free; a preschooler who needs a bed, and any elementary school child, pays the adult rate. If the adult is on a breakfast plan, a co-sleeping preschooler eats breakfast free; on a dinner plan, the child’s dinner costs extra. The FAQ warns that this can differ by booking site. Compare other hotels in our kids stay free guide.
Can a child co-sleep in a bunk bed?
Only on the lower bunk, for safety, in the Party Room, Minion Rooms 2 and 3 and the Doki Doki Adventure Room. The FAQ and one room page give different numbers for how many children can do so, so ask the hotel for your room.
What about extra beds and baby cots?
An extra bed can be added in most rooms, but even for a preschooler it costs the same as an adult’s stay; contact the hotel in advance. Baby cots and baby bedding are free for babies 0 to 24 months, and the FAQ asks you to reserve because numbers are limited.
What baby gear can I borrow?
The facility page lists a baby bath, a bouncer, a bath chair, a baby chair, a bed guard, a toilet seat for children, a waterproof sheet and a diaper pail, in limited numbers. Rooms include children’s nightwear in 100 cm and 120 cm. The WAKU WAKU Wonder Room has low wide beds, a microwave and a diaper bin.
Breakfast at Hotel Universal Port: prices and hours
How much is the breakfast buffet?
Breakfast is at Port Dining Rico Rico on the 2nd floor. The restaurant page raises prices on October 2, 2026:
| Age | Until Oct 1, 2026 | From Oct 2, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Adults (13 and up) | 3,300 yen | 3,600 yen |
| Elementary (7 to 12) | 1,900 yen | 2,100 yen |
| Young children (4 to 6) | 1,000 yen | 1,100 yen |
Official restaurant page, tax and service charge included, read September 30, 2026.
Prices can change by season. The FAQ still shows the old prices; we use the restaurant page. It gives no price for children under 4.
When is it served, and can I book a table?
From 6:30 to 10:00, last entry 9:30. There are no reservations; guests are seated in order of arrival, and the hotel expects crowds in the hour before the park opens. There are no breakfast tickets on most plans: give your room number at the restaurant. The English FAQ says you cannot cancel just the breakfast on a breakfast plan.
Can the kitchen handle food allergies?
Is there a lighter option?
The Rex Cafe on the 1st floor serves a breakfast menu from 8:00 to 11:00, per its page; a sandwich set is 1,000 yen to take out or 1,019 yen to eat in, tax included. Dinner at Rico Rico is suspended from November 9, 2026 for the time being, per the Japanese page; breakfast is not affected.
Getting to Hotel Universal Port from stations and airports

How do I get there from the airports?

The Captain Line shuttle boat links Kaiyukan Nishi-hatoba with Universal City Port. The hotel ticket counter sells tickets: 900 yen one-way for adults, 500 yen for elementary school children and 400 yen for children 3 and up, or 1,700 yen round trip for adults. The FAQ says it is cash only; the hotel points you to Captain Line’s own site for special-fare dates.
Parking at Hotel Universal Port
How much is parking?
The parking page charges 3,500 yen per night, covering 12:00 on the day of stay to 12:00 the next day, and 500 yen an hour outside that window. Show your parking ticket at the front desk when you check in. Fees may change without notice. Premium Palace guests park free, as above. Our hotel parking fees guide compares other hotels.
Can I reserve a space, and what fits?
No reservations. The multi-story garage beside the hotel has 143 spaces, open 24 hours, for cars up to 2.3 meters high, 1.9 meters wide and 5.0 meters long; there is no space for campers or buses. When it is full, the hotel directs you to a partner car park about 350 meters away (5 to 8 minutes on foot), where you need a partner parking pass from the hotel. The page does not give that car park’s fee.
Anything to watch when driving in?
The hotel warns that U-turns are banned at the Universal City Ekimae crossing, so take care if you come from the direction of JR Sakurajima Station.
Luggage and coin lockers at Hotel Universal Port
Where can I leave bags on the last day?
The FAQ says Hotel Universal Port has 409 coin lockers on the 1st floor, for hotel guests only. They take a 100-yen coin that is returned, so they are free. There are three sizes, the largest 33 by 52 by 90 cm with a wire lock. For bags that do not fit, or too many bags, ask the lobby crew.
Can I send luggage to the hotel?
Yes, prepaid by the sender. Address it to the front desk of Hotel Universal Port at 1-1-111 Sakurajima, Konohana-ku, Osaka 554-0031, and write your stay date and the lead guest’s full name in katakana. The hotel refuses food, fragile items and valuables, and the terms say it holds bags that arrive early only if it agreed beforehand.
Can the hotel send bags to the airport?
The hotel accepts ordinary courier shipments 24 hours a day and sells its own shipping boxes. The terms say it does not hold cash or valuables.

Hotel Universal Port closure on January 6, 2027
Who Hotel Universal Port is for

The official rules point to a few kinds of guest. Families with preschool children, who share a bed free, and Minion fans, who get rooms the hotel says exist nowhere else in Japan. Park-goers who want a 4-minute walk and free lockers for the last day.
