Hotel Resol is the Japanese city-hotel chain whose rooms begin with a step you do not expect: you take your shoes off at the door. Behind that one detail is a chain of 21 hotels built for tourists rather than salarymen, with a free points card that only pays out if you book direct, a 20:00 no-show rule, a cancellation fee that starts the day before at 50 percent, and, at its “Trinity” hotels, a bath that turns away tattoos.

What is Hotel Resol, and which hotels are which?
Resol Hotels, part of Resol Holdings, runs 18 Hotel Resols, one Hotel Resol Stay, one Poshtel and one resort: two in Sapporo, one in Hakodate, seven around Tokyo (Ueno, Ikebukuro, two in Akihabara, Machida, Asakusa and Iidabashi), Yokohama Sakuragicho, a Chiba golf resort, Nagoya, Gifu, Kanazawa, three in Kyoto, Osaka, Hakata, Sasebo and Naha. The “Trinity” hotels (Sapporo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Osaka, Hakata, Naha) are the newer, larger ones, and the ones with a public bath in our sample. The chain calls itself a hotel for travelers and gives each building a local design theme; Nagoya is jazz and coffee, Osaka is twilight on a bridge.
Why do I take my shoes off?
Because the chain decided every room should feel like a Japanese home. The official feature page: “All rooms at Resol Hotels follow a shoes-off policy”, with slippers provided and the step at the entrance marking where the street ends. It pairs with the chain’s own bed, which uses memory foam of the kind developed for NASA over pocket coils, and a signature aroma in the lobby. If you find socked feet on carpet odd, this is not your chain; if you like leaving the city at the door, it is the point.
What is a “Service Coordinator”?
A staff member at each hotel who knows the neighborhood and will book a restaurant or suggest a souvenir shop, backed by a hand-drawn Tourist Map of staff picks and a “Discovery” page of local shops. For a first-time visitor without Japanese, that concierge-lite role is more useful than it sounds.
What is in the room?
From the Akihabara and Osaka FAQs: free Wi-Fi in every room, all rooms non-smoking, and a loan cupboard of blankets, hair irons, irons and trouser presses, plus humidifiers and air purifiers in Osaka. Akihabara has no in-room safe (valuables go to the front desk); Osaka has one in the room. Neither has room service; Osaka lets you collect a food delivery at the desk.

What time can I check in and out?
15:00 and 11:00 at both hotels whose FAQs we read, each adding that a plan may set other times. Under the terms you pay the room charge at the front desk on arrival, or when the hotel asks.
What if I arrive late?
The terms say that if you have not contacted the hotel and have not arrived by 20:00 on the day, or by two hours after an arrival time you gave in advance, the hotel may consider the contract canceled. That is earlier than most chains. The group FAQ’s advice for a late arrival is simply “contact the hotel directly”, so put a realistic time on the booking or call.
Can I stay past 11:00?
Members of Resol Card H get one free hour, which the FAQ confirms survives the card’s relaunch. Beyond that, Trinity Osaka sells extension to 15:00 at 1,000 yen per hour per room, subject to occupancy; Akihabara charges a “standard overage fee” it does not print. Ask the night before rather than at 10:55.
How does cleaning work on a long stay?
Trinity Osaka’s FAQ describes a no-entry service on consecutive nights: towels changed, trash removed and mineral water refilled from outside the room, with a full clean on the fourth night. Want the room done on another day? Hang the cleaning magnet on the door by 10:00. Other hotels may differ; the group FAQ leaves such details to each property.

What if I shorten a stay?
One night’s penalty, whatever the number of nights you drop, under note 2 of the table. Groups of ten or more can cancel up to 10 percent of the headcount they had ten days out without penalty.
How does this compare?
The day-before 50 percent is milder than Tokyu Stay’s 80 or Dormy Inn’s ladder, but Resol’s 20:00 no-show cutoff is the earliest of the chains we have covered; Super Hotel gives you until midnight. If your train is late, the phone call matters more here than the fee.

Which room fits a family?
The FAQs point you to each hotel’s Guest Rooms page for bed widths, because the free bed-share only works if the bed is wide enough for two. Breakfast: the “Eatwell” buffet and what it costs
What is on the buffet?
About 30 dishes, with icons designed by a registered dietitian that tag each item for skin, fatigue, immunity or gut, a scheme the chain calls Eatwell Breakfast and rolled out from December 1, 2022 at most hotels. Akihabara’s breakfast room is Chianti Due, an Italian restaurant that also serves lunch and dinner and is closed on Mondays; Kyoto Kawaramachi Sanjo has Il Chianti, and Trinity Osaka serves its 30-item buffet in-house.
What does it cost?
2,000 yen at Akihabara (1,800 for members), served 7:00 to 10:00 with last orders at 9:30, preschoolers free. 2,500 yen at Trinity Osaka (2,200 for members). The group card page quotes a chain-wide non-member range of 1,500 to 3,630 yen, so expect the resort end to cost more. Nothing is included in the room rate; tell the desk on arrival if you want it.
Resol Card H: the free membership that pays 1 point per 100 yen
How do I join?
At any Resol front desk, by filling in the form and showing photo ID, or by entering your details when booking online and collecting the card at check-in. No joining fee, no annual fee. The card is personal, cannot be lent, and cannot be reissued if lost; the points go with it.
How do the points work?
Book on the official site, by phone or in person and you earn 1 point per 100 yen of your own room charge, tax included, credited at check-in when you show the card. Book through a travel agency or booking site and you get a flat 30 points a night. The 1st and 2nd of each month double the points, the 9th triples them, and your birthday month adds 100 per visit. Points are worth 1 yen, spent in units of 500 against your own room bill at the desk, and expire one year after the last time they moved.
What else does the card give?
A free extra hour at checkout, a member breakfast price (about 200 to 300 yen off), one extra face and bath towel, member room rates, and the chain’s lowest-rate guarantee: if a member booked direct and finds the same stay cheaper on a booking site, they declare it at check-in and the difference is discounted. The Japanese-language registration form is the only one, so have a name in katakana ready or ask the desk to help.
The bath at the Trinity hotels, and the tattoo rule
Which hotels have a public bath?
The relaxation page speaks of “hotels with large public baths” without listing them. In our sample, Hotel Resol Trinity Osaka has one on the first floor, guests only, looking onto a courtyard; Akihabara and Ueno list none. Treat the bath as a Trinity-hotel feature and confirm on the individual hotel page before you book for it.
What are the rules in Osaka?
Open 15:00 to 1:00 and 6:00 to 9:00. Carry your towels from the room in the tote bag, go down in the hotel nightwear and slippers, and expect to be refused if you are drunk or have a tattoo, with no cover-up exception mentioned. Our tattoos and onsen guide lists the chains that take a softer line.
What else is in the Osaka building?
Coin laundries on the 4th and 5th floors with an LG Styler steam closet on the 4th, microwaves and drink machines on the 6th, 7th and 11th floors, an alcohol vending corner on the 11th, an ice machine on the 4th, smoking booths on the 1st and 9th, and no parking. Akihabara, by contrast, has no laundry, no shop and a five-space paid car park that must be reserved.
Paying, luggage and the small print
What can I pay with?
JCB, Visa, Diners, American Express, NICOS, DC, UFJ, Saison and OMC cards at the hotels checked; electronic money depends on the hotel; gift certificates are refused; there is no foreign exchange. Payment is at the front desk on arrival under the terms.
Can I send luggage ahead?
Yes. Write the guest name, phone number and check-in date on the slip and the hotel hands it over at check-in; the terms note the hotel is responsible only for parcels it agreed to accept. Bags are held before check-in and after checkout, and the desk sells boxes and ships outbound.
Is there a curfew?
The group FAQ says curfew policy varies by hotel and to ask each one; the two FAQs we read did not mention one. Pets are not accepted except guide and service dogs, and there is no waiting list for full dates.
Who Hotel Resol is for
A traveler who likes a design-led mid-range hotel, will book direct to make the card worthwhile, and is comfortable padding around a room in socks. Families with preschoolers do well on the free bed-share. It suits late arrivals badly unless you phone, and tattooed guests should not book a Trinity hotel for the bath.

Be at the desk or on the phone by 20:00; cancel two days out to pay nothing, the day before costs 50 percent; expect to take your shoes off in the room; budget 2,000 to 2,500 yen for breakfast; join Resol Card H only if you book direct; and leave the tattoo out of the Trinity baths.
