Hotel Metropolitan Sendai stands at 1-1-1 Chuo, Aoba-ku, Sendai, a 1-minute walk from the West Exit of JR Sendai Station. Before you book, know five rules: under the hotel’s Japanese terms, canceling two days before costs 50 percent and the day before 80 percent; a 15 percent service charge and the Miyagi accommodation tax of 300 yen per person per night apply; parking rose to 2,000 yen a night in April 2026; smoking rooms are still sold; and the nearby gym and spa offered to guests does not admit people with tattoos.
The hotel’s English pages carry several older figures, including a lighter cancellation table and the old parking price. Its terms say the Japanese text prevails over any translation, so where the pages disagree we follow the Japanese and say so.

What is Hotel Metropolitan Sendai, and how do I find it?

What kind of hotel is it?
A station hotel run by JR East Hotels, in a white 21-floor building on the West Exit side of JR Sendai Station, with 295 rooms. Japanese rooms and Japanese suites are on the 6th floor, and the other rooms on floors 7 to 20. The basement connects to the S-PAL Sendai shopping center, open 10:00 to 23:00, and a passage into JR Sendai Station opens from 7:00 to midnight only. A 24-hour currency exchange machine on the 1st floor changes 12 foreign currencies into yen. For the rest of the city, see our Sendai map.
How do I walk there from the shinkansen?
From the shinkansen gates on the 3rd floor, go down by stairs or escalator to the 2nd-floor concourse, leave by the exit straight ahead, the West Exit, onto the pedestrian deck, and turn left. You enter the hotel on its 2nd floor; the front desk is on the 1st floor, down the escalator just inside.
How do I get there from Sendai Airport or by car?
Take the Sendai Airport Access Line to Sendai Station, about 25 minutes, the hotel says. By car, the access page gives about 20 minutes from the Sendai-Miyagi interchange; the Japanese FAQ and the English page say about 15. For a day trip along the coast, see our guide to Hotel Taikanso in Matsushima.
How do I contact the hotel?
The main number is 022-268-2525, and reservations take calls on 022-267-2246.
Check-in, checkout and late arrival at Hotel Metropolitan Sendai

What time are check-in and checkout?
Check-in is from 15:00 and checkout is by 11:00. Article 9 of the terms of stay sets the same hours. The booking site shows check-in from 15:00 to 24:00.
How much does late checkout cost?
Article 9 charges a share of the room rate for staying past 11:00, and the Japanese FAQ adds that it may not be possible, depending on availability:
| Extra time | Extra charge |
|---|---|
| Up to 3 hours (until 14:00) | One-third of the room charge |
| Up to 6 hours (until 17:00) | Half of the room charge |
| More than 6 hours | The room charge in full |
Article 9 of the official terms of stay (Japanese), read October 5, 2026.
The English FAQ shows the same fractions but writes the starting time as 12:00 p.m. and gives other times that do not fit an 11:00 checkout, so we follow the Japanese terms. For early check-in, the Japanese FAQ says that if you need a room guaranteed on arrival, you pay an early check-in fee; it does not give the amount.
What if I arrive late?
Call ahead. Article 6 of the terms says that if you have not arrived by 8 p.m. on the day, or two hours after the arrival time you gave, without contacting the hotel, it may treat the booking as canceled. The English FAQ says the front desk is open 24 hours and asks you to contact the hotel if you will be later than planned. The booking site lets you check in until midnight, but that does not replace the call.
What do I need at check-in?
Article 8 says guests from outside Japan with no address in Japan give their nationality and passport number. If you pay in cash, the Japanese pages say the hotel may ask for a set deposit at check-in; the English page words this as a requirement. The 1st-floor bell captain desk keeps luggage, and bags sent ahead go to the front desk.
Canceling a Hotel Metropolitan Sendai booking
What does it cost to cancel?
These are the hotel’s standard terms, from Attached Table 2 of the Japanese terms of stay:
| When you cancel | Up to 7 rooms | 8 rooms or more |
|---|---|---|
| 15 to 30 days before | 0% | 20% |
| 8 to 14 days before | 0% | 30% |
| 3 to 7 days before | 0% | 50% |
| 2 days before | 50% | 50% |
| Day before | 80% | 100% |
| On the day | 100% | 100% |
| No-show | 100% | 100% |
Attached Table 2 of the official terms of stay (Japanese), read October 5, 2026. For up to 7 rooms, no charge is listed three or more days before.
The hotel’s guide page asks you to cancel by three days before. Non-refundable plans charge 100 percent from 30 days before. The percentages apply to the basic room charge, or to the whole price of a package, and shortening a stay costs one night, however many nights you cut.
One more trap: the “Terms and Conditions” link in the English site’s footer opens a standard travel-industry terms document from 2018, not the hotel’s accommodation terms. Our hotel cancellation guide explains how fees work across Japan.
Service charge, taxes and payment at Hotel Metropolitan Sendai
What is added to the bill?
Attached Table 1 of the terms builds the bill from the room charge, a 15 percent service charge on it and on food and drink, consumption tax and the accommodation tax. The hotel’s rate page says its listed prices already include the 15 percent service charge and consumption tax. The English breakfast page adds that the buffet has no service charge.
How much is the accommodation tax?
The hotel states, in a Japanese notice, that a tax under Miyagi Prefecture’s ordinance applies to stays from January 13, 2026:
| Room-only rate per person per night, before tax | Tax |
|---|---|
| 6,000 yen or more | 300 yen (prefecture 100 yen + city 200 yen) |
| Under 6,000 yen | Not taxed |
Hotel notice (Japanese only), read October 5, 2026.
The English site carries no notice about the tax, and no page says whether online totals include it. For other taxes that began in 2026, see our page on Japan travel changes in 2026.
What are the room rates?
We do not quote room rates: the only published list prices date from April 2023. The Japanese FAQ says online rates, for a limited number of rooms, are in most cases cheaper than booking by phone, so compare the price on the booking site.
Which cards and apps are accepted?
The Japanese FAQ lists VIEW cards, JCB, Visa, UC, DC, American Express, Diners Club, Mastercard and UnionPay, plus Suica, and QR payments including PayPay, au PAY, Rakuten Pay, J-Coin Pay, Alipay, WeChat Pay and UnionPay QR. The English FAQ lists the cards and Suica but no QR payments.

| Standard Semi-Double | 18.1 m² | 2 | 140 x 195 cm |

| Large Twin (corner) | 33.6 m² | 4 | Third and fourth are extra beds |
| Japanese room | 96 m² | 8 | Futons |
Official rooms page (Japanese), read October 5, 2026. Other types and suites are on the hotel’s pages.
The Economy Single is the room closest to the elevator. The English pages call the Standard Semi-Double a “Double”; its bed is 140 cm wide. Two Japanese suites on the 6th floor sleep up to 6 and up to 4, and the 19th and 20th floors are Executive floors.
Can I still book a smoking room?
Yes. The regular room types have separate non-smoking and smoking booking buttons, so choose non-smoking when you book. The Executive floors are non-smoking only, and the 96-square-meter Japanese room is booked as a smoking room. The terms charge a 20,000 yen penalty for smoking outside the designated places, and smoking in a non-smoking room or in bed, including e-cigarettes and heated tobacco, is grounds for the hotel to end your stay.
What is in the room?
The Japanese FAQ lists an air purifier with humidifier, a Corby trouser press, a smartphone charger and deodorizer in every room, and free Wi-Fi and wired internet. The booking site lists a modular unit bathroom, a fridge and a kettle, and a microwave is available on some floors. Laptops rent for 1,100 yen a night. The hotel asks you not to leave mobile batteries charging while you are out; staff may move them or stop the charging.
Breakfast at Hotel Metropolitan Sendai
How much is breakfast, and when?
The buffet at Restaurant Serenity costs 3,000 yen and runs 6:30 to 10:00, with entry by 9:30. On weekends and holidays it adds Sendai imoni, a stew the hotel describes as miso-flavored, and the hotel names sasa-kamaboko fish cakes among its local dishes. The Japanese restaurant Hayase serves a Japanese set breakfast for the same price and hours. Children aged 6 to 11 pay 1,500 yen at the buffet, and under 6 eat free.
Is there room service breakfast?
Yes, from 7:30 to 10:00, if you order by 21:00 the night before: American breakfast 3,900 yen, sandwiches 3,000 yen, continental 3,200 yen and Japanese set 3,900 yen. Evening room service runs 17:00 to 21:00. The hotel’s pages do not mention allergy or halal options.
Kids and families at Hotel Metropolitan Sendai
Can children share a bed for free?
Yes, young ones. The Japanese FAQ says preschool children, those not yet in elementary school, share a bed free, one per bed. Elementary school children, and preschoolers who need their own bed, pay the same rate as an adult. The English FAQ puts the free age at 5 and younger; we follow the Japanese, which also covers a 6-year-old who has not started school.
Which room fits a family?
The Large Twin, a corner room of 33.6 square meters, takes four, with extra beds for the third and fourth guests. The Japanese room takes up to eight on futons.
Are baby cots available?
Yes, free, for babies under 1. But the hotel says cots do not fit rooms of 25 square meters or less, or rooms with three or four beds already in them, which rules out the Economy Single, Standard Semi-Double, Small Twin and Economy Twin. The hotel also lends bed guards, children’s pajamas in two sizes, bottle sterilizer, baby soap, a bath chair, a diaper bin and a toilet seat for children, and has a 24-hour nursing room on the 1st floor.
Gym, spa and massage near Hotel Metropolitan Sendai
Is there a gym or bath in the hotel?
No. The hotel’s facility list shows no gym, pool or large bath. Instead, a 2022 hotel notice offers guests the JEXER Light Gym & Spa 24 Sendai branch, about 3 minutes on foot, for 2,500 yen for 4 hours including tax, with a bath towel and face towel; each extra hour is 625 yen. The spa and lockers open 7:00 to 23:00 and the gym 24 hours. The spa, studio and changing rooms close every Friday, and the spa has no shampoo or body soap, so bring your own.
Can I get a massage?
Yes, in your room, in 40- or 60-minute courses, from 13:00 to 1:00 on weekdays and Saturdays and from 18:00 to 1:00 on Sundays and holidays. The hotel does not list prices.
Parking at Hotel Metropolitan Sendai

How much is parking?
Since April 1, 2026, hotel guests pay 2,000 yen a night, from 13:00 on check-in day to 13:00 the next day, and 400 yen per 30 minutes outside that window. Before April, it was 1,500 yen a night and 300 yen per 30 minutes. The car park, on the 1st floor and B2, holds 100 cars, and B2 takes vehicles up to 2.3 m high.
The Japanese FAQ also names the 24-hour Sendai Station rooftop car park as a partner, for vehicles up to 5.0 m long, 1.9 m wide and 2.1 m high. Compare other hotels in our hotel parking fees guide.
Who Hotel Metropolitan Sendai suits
Rail travelers who want to step off the shinkansen and be at the front desk within minutes, families with preschoolers who share a bed free, and anyone arriving from Sendai Airport by train. It is a harder fit for travelers whose plans may change two days out, given the 50 percent charge; for guests with tattoos who want a bath or gym; for anyone who needs a guaranteed parking space; and for parents who need a cot in a small room.
