Ryokan Yamamuro is a small inn of nine Japanese-style rooms in Owari-cho, central Kanazawa. Yamamuro is the family’s name, and the same family has owned and run it since 1893. Before you book, three things matter: every plan is room only, with no breakfast or dinner; all but one room type share the bath and toilet; and the official booking page is in Japanese, although the inn’s website has English pages.

Honto check: Every rule and figure below is from Ryokan Yamamuro’s official website in Japanese and English, its official booking page and Kanazawa City’s tax page, read on October 16, 2026. We have not stayed there. Deliberately not stated: the tattoo rule, airport or station pickup, a curfew, how many rooms of each type there are, and the size of the Superior Room, none of which the official pages give in a form we could confirm.

Which room should you choose at Ryokan Yamamuro?

All nine rooms are Japanese-style. The English site and the Japanese booking page use different names for the same rooms, so this table gives both; you will need the Japanese name when you book.

What makes the larger rooms different?

The Deluxe Room has walls in Kanazawa’s traditional vermilion, and the Family Room in its traditional ultramarine. The Superior and Deluxe rooms face a small garden that shows the seasons.

What is in each room?

The official list includes bath and face towels, a toothbrush, yukata, a hanten jacket in winter, a tea set, a hair dryer, a TV, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and an air purifier.

Is the inn accessible?

No. The guide page says the inn is not barrier-free: there are steps inside, and rooms on the 2nd floor are reached by stairs.

Where is Ryokan Yamamuro in Kanazawa, and how do you get there?

A paved path across a lawn beside trees and an old stone wall at Kanazawa Castle on a sunny day
The promenade outside the stone walls of Kanazawa Castle; the booking page puts Kanazawa Castle Park about 3 minutes from the inn on foot.

The booking page puts Omicho Market and Kanazawa Castle Park about 3 minutes on foot, with Kenroku-en, the Higashi Chaya district and the 21st Century Museum within walking distance. It also names the Kazuemachi teahouse district, the Izumi Kyoka Memorial Museum and the Kanazawa Phonograph Museum as nearby. Our Kanazawa map shows how these fit together.

How do I get there from Kanazawa Station?

It is about 18 minutes on foot, or about 5 minutes on foot after you walk through Omicho Market. By taxi from the East Exit, it is about 7 minutes. By bus, get off at Owari-cho and walk about 2 minutes: the access page lists JR buses from East Exit stops 4 or 5, and Hokutetsu buses 11, 12, 16 and 88 from stop 6.

What about Komatsu Airport and parking?

Take the airport limousine bus to the Musashigatsuji / Omicho Market stop, then walk about 8 minutes. The official pages do not mention a pickup. The inn has no parking of its own; its access page lists coin parking lots nearby.

The baths at Ryokan Yamamuro

How does the bath work?

The bath is in the basement and is open from 17:00 to 23:00. Each group uses it privately, one group at a time. It has one tub and five showers. The official pages do not describe it as a hot spring.

Are there showers outside those hours?

Yes. There are two shower rooms, open from 6:00 to 24:00.

Can I bathe with a tattoo?

The official pages do not mention tattoos. Ask the inn before you book; our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.

Meals at Ryokan Yamamuro: what to do instead

The official site says breakfast is not provided and that the staff will point you to restaurants nearby; plans on the booking page are all room only, so there is no dinner either. A shared lounge, open from 7:00 to 22:00, has a microwave and self-service coffee, and there is a shared fridge by the front desk. There is no guest kitchen. A 7-Eleven is about 2 minutes away on foot, and Omicho Market is close by; see our things to do in Kanazawa for the city around it. Because no food is served, there is no allergy menu to ask about.

How much does a stay cost?

As an example, the Deluxe Room for two adults was 21,200 yen on regular dates in October 2026, and 29,200 yen on October 24. The Deluxe Room plan needs a two-night minimum on many dates through June 2027, and same-day bookings close at 14:00.

Is there an accommodation tax?

Yes. Kanazawa City charges 200 yen per person per night when the room rate before tax is 5,000 yen to under 20,000 yen, and 500 yen at 20,000 yen or more; stays under 5,000 yen are exempt. The booking page says the tax is charged separately.

What do children cost?

The booking page lists elementary-school children at 100 percent of the adult rate, and it does not accept infants in any category.

What is the cancellation policy?

No deposit is needed. The booking page lists 100 percent of the rate from 5 days before, on the day and for a no-show, and lists no fee before that. Check the rule on your plan; our hotel cancellation guide explains how Japanese rules work.

How do I pay?

The booking page lists online card payment. The inn says receipts and qualified invoices can, as a rule, only be issued for bookings made directly with it.
