Hotel Route Inn is the chain you meet on the road: more than 300 hotels and 65,534 rooms, most of them at a highway exit or a regional station, with a car park, a public bath and a free breakfast of thirty-odd dishes. It is also one of the few Japanese chains that prints a price for every hour you bend the rules: 1,000 yen per person per hour for leaving after 10:00, the same for arriving before 15:00. The FAQ that sets this out is in Japanese only, so this page carries the numbers across.

What is Hotel Route Inn, and which brand is which?
Route Inn Group, headquartered in Ueda, Nagano, runs four hotel brands. Hotel Route Inn (including the smaller Route Inn Court) is the core: business-first, functional, usually with a car park and a bath, though the brand page notes some branches have neither. Hotel Route Inn Grand is the upgraded city version; Route Inn Grantia adds spa or resort functions in places like Hanyu, Komatsu Airport and Dazaifu; Ark Hotel is a five-hotel city brand in Osaka, Hakata, Hiroshima and Kumamoto; and Grandvrio is the resort line, from Ishigaki to Da Nang, which sits outside most of the rules on this page. The company profile counts the group at over 300 hotels and 65,534 rooms in operation.
Why do foreigners end up here?
Because it is the chain that exists where the big-city brands do not: prefectural capitals, castle towns, expressway interchanges on a road trip. For a driver it is the default; for a rail traveler the “Ekimae” and “Ekinishi” branches by the station are the ones to look for.
What is in the room and the lobby?
The family page lists a humidifying air purifier in every room, loungewear to change into, a kids’ anime channel on the TV, and in the lobby a free self-service coffee corner. Children get a free amenity set of slippers, a toothbrush (no paste) and a mini towel, and most hotels have children’s tableware and chairs at breakfast.

Why is checkout 10:00?
It is the business-hotel norm that Super Hotel also keeps, and Route Inn is unusual only in telling you exactly what the extra hours cost instead of saying “subject to availability”. If you want a lazy morning, the FAQ’s own arithmetic makes 12:00 for two the price of a modest lunch.
Can I stay in the room during the day on a multi-night stay?
Yes. On nights other than arrival and departure you may use the room between 10:00 and 15:00 as well, except while it is being cleaned. The exception is the Biz Court Cabin in Susukino, Sapporo, where rooms are cleared from 10:00 to 16:00; bags go in the room locker or to the desk and the lounge is opened for guests who stay in.
How far ahead can I book?
To the last day of the month eleven months ahead, counting the current month: booked on October 15, you can reserve any night through the following August 31. There is no waiting list.

What is an “event period”?
A window the hotel designates when a big local event fills the town, during which a stricter table can apply. The FAQ says the hotel publishes the period and the fees on its own page and on partner sites, so read the plan you book during a festival or a match. How to pay a fee depends on the booking channel; ask the hotel you canceled.
Which chains are softer?
Route Inn’s same-day 80 percent is the same as remm’s, and the day-before 50 percent matches Hotel Resol. Super Hotel charges nothing until the day itself. Dormy Inn is stricter at the top end.

What is on the buffet?
The breakfast page promises at least 30 items every day: four kinds of European bread baked without preservatives (laugen rolls, ciabatta, Kaiser rolls), eggs two ways, a grilled or simmered fish, two fried items, a hot pot or stew such as curry or nikujaga, salads, pickles, a dessert and regional dishes that change with the season and the prefecture. Some hotels bake bread in-house. The chain says the buffet is aimed at rice people and bread people alike.
Is it free everywhere?
At Hotel Route Inn and Route Inn Court, free for all guests. At Route Inn Grand, Route Inn Grantia and Ark Hotel it is free only when you booked on the official site; book those through a third-party site and breakfast may be extra. Grandvrio resorts are excluded. Since February 28, 2025 the breakfast rooms no longer admit non-guests.

What else is there for kids?
A kids’ channel, a small library at some hotels, the free amenity set, child-size tableware and chairs at breakfast, and the bath, which children under seven may enter with a parent of either sex; from seven they go by their own sex, and anyone in a diaper stays out. The bath: hours, the cover-seal rule and who is turned away
When is the bath open?
From check-in at 15:00 until 2:00, and again from 5:00 until checkout at 10:00; the gap is cleaning. Hotels that alternate one bath between men and women post their own timetable, and the Grantia spa resorts (Akita, Hanyu, Fukuyama, Saroma, Komatsu Airport, Miyawaka, Dazaifu, Aoshima, Tokai) run different hours.
Can I bathe with a tattoo?
The rule is a refusal with one door open: tattooed guests are not admitted, unless the tattoo is completely covered with a cover seal, in which case you may use the bath. That is more accommodating than the flat bans at Super Hotel or Hotel Monterey and in line with Dormy Inn. Buy the seals before you travel; our tattoos and onsen guide explains sizes.
What other bath rules are there?
No phones or cameras in the bath area; no entry when drunk; rinse before the tub; valuables and the room key in a locker or at the desk. Bathing garments designed to cover surgical scars are welcome at every hotel in the group, which the FAQ states explicitly.
Paying, points and the official app
What can I pay with?
Cash; Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club and UnionPay; electronic money and QR code payments (brands on a separate page); gift cards from VJA, JCB, Mitsubishi UFJ Nicos and UC; and Ponta or d points, all as of February 1, 2023. Prepaying by card at booking is possible, and the charge shows on your statement as “tripla hotel reservation service” unless you used the group’s own Ponta Visa card. Receipts for prepaid stays are downloadable from midnight on checkout day.
How do the points work?
Show a Ponta or d point card at check-in for an official-site booking and you earn 3 points per 100 yen of the pre-tax room charge, each worth 1 yen; restaurant spending earns 1 point per 100 yen. You choose one scheme; Ponta and d points cannot be combined or both used on one stay. The official-site booking account, the app account and the point card are three separate registrations, which the FAQ spends several answers untangling.
What does the app do?
Member-rate bookings, app-only coupons, a “pipit check-in” barcode that spares you the registration card at every hotel, Ponta and d point linking, and from April 20, 2026 a reward-stamp game that pays out a room-discount coupon after nine stamps. App coupons cannot be combined with prepaid card bookings.
Luggage, minors and the small print
Can I send a suitcase ahead?
Yes: write the stay date and your name in katakana on the slip and the hotel holds it until check-in. It refuses cash, valuables, medicines, letters, fragile items, dangerous goods, refrigerated parcels and anything sent cash-on-delivery, and has no fridge or freezer for guests’ parcels. The desk ships bags out by courier.
Can minors stay alone?
With a signed parental consent form per minor, available as an English PDF; without it the desk phones a parent and may refuse. Boys and girls under 18 cannot share a room unless they are family.
Anything else?
No pets. No medicines sold or given, under the pharmaceutical law, though staff will point you to a pharmacy. Long-stay discount plans exist at some hotels. And a drink coin from the official-site booking bonus must be used at that hotel before checkout.
Who Hotel Route Inn is for
Drivers, families with small children, and anyone traveling through regional Japan who wants a bath and a real breakfast for a business-hotel price. It is the wrong choice if you want to sleep in without paying, or if your tattoo is bigger than a cover seal.
