SORA Togetsusou Kinryu is a ryokan in Shuzenji Onsen, on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka. Its Japanese site calls it an inn whose open-air baths are popular, and a filming location for the TV drama known as “Nigehaji.” Before you book, three things matter: there is no shuttle from Shuzenji Station; the two private open-air baths cost 2,000 yen for 40 minutes and are booked at check-in; and the booking page is in Japanese only.

The grounds include a garden the inn describes as 15,000 tsubo, with a “Forest Garden” added in 2012 and five stone markers of the Katsuradani 88-temple pilgrimage. The booking page photos note that the garden is lit up every night from 19:30 to 22:00, that the lobby café looks onto it, and that wild deer can sometimes be seen. All rooms are non-smoking, and Wi-Fi works throughout the building.
Getting to SORA Togetsusou Kinryu from Shuzenji Station

Is there a shuttle bus?
No. The access page says pickups from Shuzenji Station are not offered, under an agreement across the local inn association, and asks guests to use local transport.
How long is the taxi or bus?
A taxi from Shuzenji Station takes about 8 minutes. By bus, ride about 10 minutes to the last stop, Shuzenji Onsen, then walk about 8 minutes. The inn sits on high ground, so there is a slope in front of the entrance; with heavy luggage, the taxi is easier. By car, the booking page gives about 35 minutes from the Nagaizumi-Numazu IC on the Tomei Expressway.
Nearby, according to the booking page photos: the Bamboo Forest Path is about 1 minute on foot, Kaede Bridge about 3 minutes, and Shuzenji Temple about 5 minutes.

The room pages describe a 3-mat entry and a main room of 12.5 tatami mats with a veranda, plus a toilet with a washlet. One point to note: in the Mountain View and Garden View rooms, the in-room bath is heated water, not hot spring. For hot-spring water, use the shared baths or book a room with its own open-air bath. The official pages do not give the number of guests each room holds; one plan name mentions Japanese-style beds for two.
The hot-spring baths at SORA Togetsusou Kinryu

What are the shared baths like?
The spring is an alkaline simple spring with a source temperature of 61.2°C. The shared baths have two open-air pools: the “Light” open-air bath, designed by space designer Hisanobu Tsujimura and renewed in January 2023, and the “Sunset” open-air bath, reached from the indoor bath, where you can watch the sun go down behind Mount Daruma. The official pages do not list the bath hours; ask at check-in.
How do the private baths work?
There are two private open-air baths, one of rock and one of stone. Each costs 2,000 yen for 40 minutes, and you book them when you check in, not in advance online. The inn asks guests not to use soap or shampoo in them, to protect the environment, so wash in the shared baths or your room. Our guide to private bath fees explains how such charges work.
Can I bathe with a tattoo?
The official pages do not state a tattoo rule. Ask the inn by phone or email before you book; our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.
Meals at SORA Togetsusou Kinryu
Where and what will I eat?
Depending on the plan, meals are served in your room, a dining room, a private room or a private dining space. On the plan we checked, the inn chooses between your room and a private dining room, and you cannot pick. Dinner is a kaiseki menu that changes every month with seasonal food. The official pages do not give the breakfast style or the meal times.
Can the inn handle allergies or a special diet?
The inn says it will respond to allergies as far as it can and asks for details by phone or email. It also states that, because of cross-contamination, it cannot provide fully allergy-free meals: it takes care not to serve the allergen itself, but you eat at your own judgment. Vegetarian and halal meals are not mentioned on the official pages.
