HOSHINOYA Fuji (2026): 2-Night Minimum, Meals, Cancel Fees

Guide·October 4, 2026·22 min read·Sourced & cross-checked

HOSHINOYA Fuji is a glamping resort of 40 cabins on a wooded hillside above Lake Kawaguchiko, run by Hoshino Resorts. Before you book, know five rules: stays are two nights minimum, with one-night stays bookable only within 30 days; there is no station shuttle; the standard rate is room only, and meals are booked separately; the standard rate charges 10 percent from 21 days out and 100 percent from 3 days out, while discount plans are non-refundable; and there is no onsen, public bath or pool.

This page reads the resort’s Japanese and English pages, its dining, activity and access pages, the official booking pages and the Hoshino Resorts FAQ. For how it compares with the brand’s other lines, see our Hoshino Resorts guide. Where the official pages disagree, we name the page or leave the figure out.

We have not stayed there. Plans and prices on the booking pages change with the dates you search. Deliberately not stated: room rates, which change by date and plan; the accommodation tax amount; local bus routes, bus times and taxi fares from Kawaguchiko Station; the fare for the private car from Mishima; early check-in, late checkout and no-show rules, which the pages do not give; parking spaces, height limits and winter tire needs; when the winter kotatsu is set up; which cabins allow smoking on the terrace; whether staff speak English; child rates in yen; laundry; the sukiyaki dinner times and booking deadline, which two official pages give differently; the Jukai Morning Tour price, which the Japanese and English pages give differently; and the phone numbers, which also differ between the two languages.

What is HOSHINOYA Fuji, and what are the cabins like?

Where is it, and what is on the site?

At 1408 Oishi, Fujikawaguchiko-machi, on the hills above Lake Kawaguchiko. The Japanese pages describe a forest of about 6 hectares in a special zone of a national park. Wooden decks called the Cloud Terrace step up the slope, with a library cafe at the top. The official facility list counts two restaurants, a cafe and lounge, and a spa and massage service. The English home page bills it as Japan’s first glamping resort. For the lake itself, see our things to do at Lake Kawaguchiko guide.

How does arrival work?

The reception is at the bottom of the hill. The Japanese pages say you pick a colorful backpack there and fill it with glamping items for the forest before your stay begins.

Which cabin types are there?

A booking search for a sample November 2026 stay listed these cabin types. The booking data gives each an area figure without a unit, so read the sizes as approximate:

CabinSize (about)GuestsBeds
T Cabin40 sq m1 to 2Two twin beds, 210 x 105 cm
D Cabin (Terrace Sofa or Deck Chair)39 sq m1 to 2King bed, 210 x 200 cm
F Cabin47 sq m1 to 3Three beds
S Cabin40 sq m1 to 2Two twin beds; wood stove on the terrace

Official booking pages, sample search for two adults, two nights, read September 30, 2026.

No cabin takes an extra bed. The English page says the S Cabin, with a wood stove in its terrace living area facing the lake, has only two cabins; and that in the F Cabin, one bed can be moved closer to another for families. You cannot request a specific cabin, and the number of guests cannot be changed after booking.

What is inside a cabin?

Each cabin has a bathtub, with the bath, toilet and sink in separate spaces and a bidet toilet. The listed amenities include a Bluetooth player, humidifier, floor heating, electric kettle, minibar, safe, pajamas, slippers, rubber boots, towels and a hair dryer. The Japanese pages say a third of each cabin is a terrace living area, where a kotatsu heated table is set up in winter; they do not give the dates. Wi-Fi is free in the cabins.

How often are cabins cleaned?

On multi-night stays, every third day. On the other days staff change towels and take out trash only, with no sheet change. An extra cleaning costs 9,680 yen; the Japanese and English pages agree on this.

Booking HOSHINOYA Fuji: two-night minimum and check-in

Can I book just one night?

Not far ahead. The booking pages say, in the English wording, that the resort has “a reservation policy of two nights minimum. However, reservation for 1 night is available for dates within 30 days.” The Japanese text says the same: bookings start at two nights, and one-night bookings open 30 days before the stay date. If your trip is further out, plan two nights or wait.

What time are check-in and checkout?

Check-in is at 3:00 pm and checkout at 12:00 pm, on both the Japanese and English pages. The pages do not describe early check-in, late checkout, or a deadline for late arrival, so ask the resort if your times are tight.

Which plans can I choose?

A sample search for November 2026 showed these plans; what you see depends on your dates:

PlanWhat it includesRefundable?
Standard RateRoom onlyYes, with fees below
Half-Board PlanCourse dinner night 1, wagyu sirloin grill set night 2, grill breakfast both morningsYes, with fees below
Over 2 Nights Stay25% off the standard rateNo
Winter Wellness Retreat (Nov 1, 2026 to Mar 31, 2027)One breakfast, forest programs, herbal teaNo
Dog-friendly plansStay in the dog-friendly cabinStandard: yes; 2-night discount: no

Official booking pages, sample search, read September 30, 2026.

On the half-board plan, the English page asks you to pre-order the first night’s dinner by selecting “Dining Course Menu” on the confirmation screen once your booking is complete.

HOSHINOYA Fuji cancellation and payment rules

What does it cost to cancel?

On the standard rate, the half-board plan and the standard dog-friendly plan, the booking pages set two steps:

When you cancelFee
21 to 4 days before arrival10%
3 days before to the day of arrival100%

Official booking pages, standard rate, read September 30, 2026.

The Japanese note adds that fees start 21 days before arrival and asks you to cancel early. The pages do not say how a no-show is handled. Our hotel cancellation guide compares policies across Japan.

Which plans cannot be canceled?

The Over 2 Nights Stay plan (25 percent off), the Winter Wellness Retreat and the two-night dog-friendly plan. The Japanese text says these plans cannot be changed or canceled; the English text says “No change is acceptable” and marks them non-refundable. The discount is real, but so is the risk: book it only when your dates are fixed.

When am I charged?

At booking. The Japanese plan pages say the room charge is settled by card when the booking is complete, and the English plan pages carry the line “Full Payment Required, No Date Changes.” Online payment takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club and JCB. At the property you can pay by cash or credit card, including UnionPay.

What if bad weather or illness stops me?

The Hoshino Resorts FAQ says cancellation fees and when they start depend on the plan, and that some plans cannot be canceled. It also covers a date change because of fever or illness, and lists other special cases; read that FAQ and phone the property if one applies to you.

Meals at HOSHINOYA Fuji: dinner and breakfast are booked separately

Are meals included?

Not on the standard rate. The English plan says “Rates are on a room only basis.” You book dinner and breakfast after your room booking is complete, and the dining page says a same-day cancellation costs 100 percent of the meal.

What are the dinner options?

The Japanese dining page lists these, with prices as shown on that page:

DinnerWherePrice per person
Gastronomic Wild (course), from 5:30 pmDining room14,520 yen (ages 12 and over)
Red Wine Sukiyaki HotpotCabin18,150 yen
Shabu-shabu HotpotCabin18,150 yen (pork only 14,520 yen)
Soy Milk Shabu-Shabu with yuba and vegetablesCabin12,100 yen
A la carte, from 5:30 pmDining roomNot listed

Official dining page (Japanese), read September 30, 2026.

The hotpots are for two people or more, one menu per booking, and move inside the cabin if it rains. The two shabu-shabu hotpots run from 6:10 to 7:50 pm, booked by 5 pm on the day; the soy milk one suits vegetarians. For the sukiyaki, the dining page and the autumn page give different times and deadlines, so check when you book it. The a la carte menu includes local dishes such as hoto noodles and curry, and in-cabin dining runs 9:00 am to 6:00 pm (last order 5:00 pm).

Can the kitchen handle allergies?

Not on the course menu. The resort says it cannot adjust the dining room course for allergies or disliked ingredients. Children 11 and under order from the a la carte menu instead of the course. If you have an allergy, ask before you book any meal.

What is breakfast?

Two choices, both booked by the day before. Morning Grills in the dining room, 7:30 to 9:10 am, costs 4,840 yen for ages 7 and over and 1,815 yen for ages 4 to 6. The Breakfast Box, delivered to your cabin between 7:30 and 9:50 am, costs 6,050 yen. The Japanese page adds that store-bought baby food is sold by age in months at 605 yen each; you may bring your own, but staff do not warm it.

Is there a lunch activity?

A stone-oven pizza session on the Cloud Terrace, 4,235 yen per pizza, with five start times from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, booked by 6 pm the day before. You cannot join on your arrival day.

Getting to HOSHINOYA Fuji: no shuttle from the station

Is there a shuttle from Kawaguchiko Station?

No. The Japanese page lists shuttle service as none, and the English page says “Not Available.” The nearest station is Kawaguchiko Station. The English access page says to take a taxi from there; the Japanese access page says a taxi or local bus. The pages give no bus route, ride time or taxi fare.

How do I get there from Tokyo?

FromHowAbout
ShinjukuLimited Express Kaiji to Otsuki, then the Fujikyu line to Kawaguchiko120 min
Tokyo, Shibuya or ShinjukuHighway bus to Kawaguchiko Station120 min
Haneda AirportBy car / by train2 hours / 4 hours

Official access page (airport times on the Japanese page only), read September 30, 2026.

Then take the taxi from Kawaguchiko Station. For other stops in the area, see our day trips from Tokyo guide.

What about coming from Kyoto, Osaka or Nagoya?

The Japanese access page routes you by shinkansen to Mishima Station, then a highway bus to Kawaguchiko Station, about 90 minutes. The English page adds that a private chauffeur service runs from the North Exit of Mishima Station to the resort, with advance booking required. It is a paid service; the pages we read do not show the fare.

Can I drive, and is parking free?

Yes. Parking is free, outdoors, with no reservation. The access page gives about 20 minutes from the Kawaguchiko interchange of the Higashi-Fujigoko Road, or about 70 minutes from the Shin-Fuji interchange of the Shin-Tomei Expressway. EV charging is available 24 hours, with two 3.2 kW and two 6 kW chargers at 200 V; apply after booking and check in for it at the front desk on the day. The pages give no space count or height limit.

Kids, dogs and baths at HOSHINOYA Fuji

Can children share a bed?

Yes. The room notes say children under 12 can share a bed, without meals or bedding, up to the cabin’s capacity. In the booking form they go under the bed-share category for ages 0 to 11; ages 4 to 6 and 7 to 11 are booked with bedding, or bedding and meals. Meals only can be added by noon on the day. Because no cabin takes an extra bed, a family that needs three beds should look at the F Cabin. Compare other hotels in our kids stay free guide.

What is there for kids to do?

There is no kids’ room and no pool. The dining course is for ages 12 and over. The Hoshino Resorts FAQ says guests under 18 staying without an adult need a guardian’s consent and a contact for the stay. Several activities have age limits, listed below.

Is there an onsen, and does a tattoo matter?

There is no onsen, public bath or pool. The official facility list marks all three as not available. Each cabin has its own bathtub, so the tattoo rules that apply to shared baths do not come up here. If you want a hot spring near the lake, see our Konansou guide.

Can I bring my dog?

For now. The page says pet-friendly stays are available for stays until January 11, 2027, and does not say what happens after that. There is one dog-friendly cabin on the site. Up to two dogs of 20 kg or less can stay, at 5,093 yen per dog per night, tax included and paid at the property. You must bring copies of rabies and combination vaccine certificates, or you cannot stay. Dogs are not allowed in the main dining room, but can join you for in-cabin dining. A dog left alone in the cabin must stay in a cage.

Is HOSHINOYA Fuji non-smoking?

The cabins are. The Hoshino Resorts FAQ says all guest rooms are non-smoking, including electronic cigarettes, and that at HOSHINOYA Fuji some room types have terraces where you can smoke outdoors. It does not say which cabins.

Official activity pages, Japanese prices including tax (and service charge for the hiking and spa), read September 30, 2026.

The canoe spends about 40 minutes on the lake, and children cannot paddle without an adult. It costs 100 percent to cancel from 6 pm the day before. The Japanese cycling page sets a minimum height of 135 cm. The in-room spa is given in your cabin by a male therapist, and costs 100 percent to cancel within 24 hours. The Japanese and English pages give different prices for the Jukai Morning Tour, so we do not repeat one.

What is free in autumn 2026?

Time-sensitive, as of September 30, 2026: from September 11 to December 2, 2026, the autumn page lists free programs with no booking needed, including a forest walk, a forest concert with a bonfire bar (drinks extra), and a morning aroma distillation. A moonlight lounge runs 7:00 to 10:00 pm on October 25 to 27 and November 23 to 25, 2026.

Which season should I pick?

The Japanese autumn page says the forest and lakeshore start to turn in October, with the leaves at their peak in November. In winter, the resort sets up the kotatsu and describes clear starry skies. The pages give no temperatures or snow guidance, and the cycling tour may be canceled in rain or snow.

Tipping, tax and contact at HOSHINOYA Fuji

Should I tip?

No. The Japanese plan pages say HOSHINOYA declines tips, and the English Hoshino Resorts FAQ says “Tipping is not accepted at Hoshino Resorts in Japan.”

Is there an accommodation tax?

Yes. The plan pages say the accommodation tax is paid at the property, and that if taxes change, the difference is settled at checkout. The resort does not publish the amount. The booking data also does not say whether the displayed room price includes tax and service charge, so check the total on your plan.

Can I book and ask questions in English?

The official site and booking pages work in English, Chinese and Korean as well as Japanese, and there is a chat service on the site. The official pages do not say whether English-speaking staff are on site. The Japanese and English contact pages list different reservation numbers, so we do not print one; use the official contact page.

Can I send luggage ahead?

Yes. Write your check-in date and the main guest’s name on the delivery slip.

Travelers who want a quiet cabin in the forest above Lake Kawaguchiko, with a terrace living area, a bathtub in the cabin and meals chosen one by one. It suits couples and small groups who can commit to two nights and fix their dates early enough to use the non-refundable discount. It is a harder fit if you want a hot spring or pool, need an extra bed, have allergies and want the course dinner, or want a one-night stay booked months ahead.

Frequently asked questions

On the standard rate, 10 percent from 21 days before arrival and 100 percent from 3 days before. The 25 percent off plan for two nights or more and the limited-time plans cannot be changed or canceled for a refund. Every plan is charged in full when you book.
