Dogo Miyu stands on a small hill in Dogo Onsen, Matsuyama, about three minutes on foot from Dogo Onsen Honkan. It opened in May 2018 on the site of the Hoso Hotel, whose roots go back to an inn founded in 1953, and it calls its idea “modern toji,” a stay built around the hot spring. Before you book, three things matter: children of primary-school age and younger cannot stay; dinner is a set Japanese course with no vegetarian or vegan menu; and the inn has regular closing days, announced month by month.

The baths at Dogo Miyu

Is the room bath a real hot spring?
Yes. The FAQ says the room baths and the view bath use water piped from Dogo Onsen, an alkaline simple spring. Each room’s open-air bath can be used 24 hours a day.
When is the view bath open?
The 8th-floor view bath, one for men and one for women, each with a small open-air tub, looks over Matsuyama and the mountains. It is open 6:00–10:00 and 15:00–24:00 and is for hotel guests only; there is no day bathing. Towels and toiletries are there, so you can go empty-handed. Next door, the Kagirohi sky lounge has free drinks and snacks during the same hours.
Can I bathe with a tattoo?
The FAQ says guests with tattoos cannot use the view bath and should use the bath in their room. The public bathhouses in town set their own rules; our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.
Can I walk to Dogo Onsen Honkan?
Yes. The inn says its three public-bath neighbors, Dogo Onsen Honkan, Asuka-no-Yu and Tsubaki-no-Yu, are all within about three minutes on foot, and suggests walking over in the inn’s yukata with a bath basket. Each bathhouse has its own hours and fees; check their official pages.
Meals at Dogo Miyu
What are dinner and breakfast like?
Both are served in tachibana, the 2nd-floor dining room; there is no in-room dining. Dinner is a seasonal Japanese course called “a stroll through Iyo,” and the autumn example ends with Iyo beef steak and sea-bream rice. Dinner starts between 18:00 and 19:30, and breakfast, a Japanese set meal, between 7:30 and 9:00. Guests staying two nights get a different dinner on the second night. The dining room does not serve lunch or non-staying guests; for food in town, see our Matsuyama food guide.
Can the inn handle allergies or a special diet?
Only partly. The inn says it cannot prepare vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian or religious menus. Tell it about food allergies when you book; the kitchen shares equipment, so it cannot guarantee full removal, it may decline a stay for a severe allergy, and it cannot handle wheat allergies at all.
Prices, children and payment at Dogo Miyu
How much does a stay cost?
Per person, with two adults in a room and tax included, the booking page starts at 26,000 yen room only, 28,200 yen with breakfast, 39,200 yen with dinner, and 41,400 yen for the standard plan with dinner and breakfast. Breakfast can be added from 3,700 yen if you ask by 17:00 on the day. Add the Matsuyama bathing tax of 150 yen per person per day; see our onsen bathing tax guide.
Can children stay?
The rooms page says children of primary-school age and younger, including babies, cannot stay, and children who can stay pay the adult rate. The booking page explains why: the room baths and terraces have no rails to stop a child from falling. If your child is around 12, check with the inn first.
What is the cancellation policy?
Each plan on the booking page lists its own cancellation fees, so read the rule on your plan before you book. Our hotel cancellation guide explains how fees work in Japan.
How do I pay?
The FAQ lists Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club and debit cards, plus PayPay, transit IC cards, WAON, iD and Rakuten Edy.
