Sally Garden Inn Yanagiya (in Japanese, Sally Garden no Yado Toji Yanagiya) is a toji inn, a place for slow, restorative bathing stays, on Kannawa Ginza-dori in Kannawa Onsen, Beppu. The inn says it carries on a lodging tradition dating from the Meiji era and calls itself a place for adults with art throughout; Sally Garden, the inn notes, is a chiffon cake and baked goods shop that opened in Oita City in 2008. Before you book, three things matter: there is no inn dinner; children can stay only in the two detached houses; and check-in closes at 18:00.

There is no elevator, the whole inn is non-smoking, and guests are asked to keep quiet, especially after 21:00. The baths at Sally Garden Inn Yanagiya

What kind of hot spring is it?
The inn’s pride is its own-source, free-flowing spring, a sodium chloride spring. There is also a drinking fountain of spring water, Reigetsu no Yu, in the courtyard.
What baths are there?
There are two shared bath areas: the 2nd-floor bath has an open-air bath, and there is a 1st-floor bath. Men’s and women’s sides swap at set times. The main building also has a steam sauna on its 2nd floor. The official pages do not list bath hours.
Is there a private bath?
The official pages do not mention a bookable private bath. The two detached houses, Creer and Nanakusa, each have their own indoor bath, and new-wing rooms have their own bath and toilet.
Can I bathe with a tattoo?
The official pages do not mention tattoos. Ask the inn before you book; our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.
Meals at Sally Garden Inn Yanagiya: breakfast, the restaurant and jigoku steam

What is breakfast?
Breakfast is a seiro breakfast steamed in the jigoku oven, the natural hot-spring steam Kannawa is known for. Eat it where you like: the lounge, the courtyard or the anteroom. Three menus rotate daily, and the inn says it may not be able to meet requests.
Where do I eat dinner?
The inn does not serve dinner. Its rooms page asks guests who want dinner to book the restaurant directly: Otto e Sette Oita, an attached Italian restaurant run by its owner-chef that serves what it calls jigoku Italian. Dinner is 18:00 to 22:00 (last order 21:00), by reservation only, phone 0977-66-4411. It is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday, plus other days.
Can I cook with jigoku steam myself?
Yes. Order a steaming set in advance and steam it yourself. The self-catering kitchen, with fridge, cookware and dishes, and the jigoku oven are open from 7:00 to 21:00. Steamed dishes cannot be eaten in new-wing, Nest or Creer rooms; eat them in the lounge.
Can the inn handle allergies or a special diet?
The official pages do not say. Ask the inn before you book.

Oita Prefecture will add an accommodation tax from June 1, 2027; it is not charged yet. See our onsen bathing tax guide. The inn says booking on its own website comes with a lowest-price guarantee, and guests who arrive by 16:00 get a welcome drink ticket for one of two nearby shops.
Can children stay?
Only in the detached houses Nanakusa and Creer. The official pages do not give child prices.
What is the cancellation policy?
The rooms page lists 30 percent up to 5 days before, 60 percent 2 days before, 70 percent the day before, and 100 percent on the day or for a no-show. See our hotel cancellation guide.

The official pages do not list payment methods. Ask the inn when you book.
How do I get to Sally Garden Inn Yanagiya in Beppu?

The inn is on Kannawa Ginza-dori, in the hot-spring district of Kannawa; our Beppu guide covers the town. The text of the access page gives only driving directions: look for the Kannawa Onsen east entrance sign, go straight rather than turning onto Ideyu-zaka, turn left after the Oita Kotsu “Kannawa Onsen” bus stop, then left again at the next crossroads. The car park is across from the inn, and the road there is one-way. The nearest station and travel times appear only in images on the site, and no pickup service is mentioned, so ask the inn.
