Ryokan Tachibana is a 19-room inn in Atami Onsen, Shizuoka, facing the sea and a seaside park. It calls itself an inn that connects people, and says no two of its rooms share the same layout. The baths use Atami hot-spring water that is 100 percent free-flowing. Before you book, three things matter: dinner is served in your room from 18:00, so check-in on meal plans closes at 18:00; there is no shuttle from Atami Station; and the official site and booking page are in Japanese only.

The baths at Ryokan Tachibana
Which baths are there?
There is a view open-air bath on the 5th floor and a large bath on the 1st floor, each with one bath for men and one for women; the 5th-floor baths do not swap. The water comes from Atami’s hot springs, 100 percent free-flowing. Both open at 15:00; ask the inn about closing and morning hours. Day visitors can use the large bath from 15:00 to 20:00 for 1,100 yen. After your bath, the lounge serves welcome drinks and ice pops until 19:00.
Is there a private bath?
Yes, two private baths, opened in August 2020. Apply at the front desk after check-in; they are open from 15:00 to 23:00. The booking page lists 2,200 yen per use, tax included, and some plans include one free use. Our guide to private bath fees explains how these fees work at Japanese inns.
Can I bathe with a tattoo?
The official pages do not mention tattoos. Ask the inn before you book; the private baths and the rooms with their own open-air bath may be worth asking about. Our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.
Meals at Ryokan Tachibana
What are dinner and breakfast like?
Dinner is a kaiseki course served in your room from 18:00. The inn’s signatures are tai-meshi, sea bream cooked with rice, and simmered kinmedai, golden-eye snapper; some plans add abalone, wagyu or a sashimi boat. Breakfast is in your room or the dining area, at 7:30 or 8:00. Local sake includes Isojiman, Kaiun and Kikuyoi. A children’s menu is shown with dishes such as hamburger steak, fried shrimp and karaage.
Can the inn handle allergies or a special diet?
The official pages do not mention allergies, vegetarian or halal meals. Contact the inn before you book. On the room-only plan, meals cannot be added after booking or on the day.
