Hananomai, Yufuin (2026): Room-Only Onsen Inn, Fees

Hananomai Yufuin · Room-Only Onsen Inn
Guide·October 15, 2026·10 min read·Sourced & cross-checked

Hananomai is a small hot-spring inn in Yufuin, Oita, close to Yunotsubo Street and a 5-minute walk from Lake Kinrinko. Since October 2024 it has run as a stay-focused inn. Before you book, three things matter: there is no dinner, so every plan is room only or with breakfast; the private baths need no booking; and the official pages and booking page are in Japanese only.

Honto check: Every rule and figure below is from Hananomai’s official Japanese site, its official booking page and its official blog, plus Yufu City for the bathing tax, read on October 12, 2026. We have not stayed there. Deliberately not stated: the tattoo rule, the cancellation fee rates, the number of rooms, a curfew, whether the bathing tax is in the price, and pickup service. The official pages do not give these, so ask the inn.

Why is there no dinner?

The inn’s official blog says its restaurant closed in August 2024 and that the inn moved to a stay-focused style from October 2024, after work in September. The plans on the booking page today are room only or with breakfast, and none include dinner. The booking page pitches these plans to guests who want to explore Yufuin at their own pace.

What is breakfast like?

Breakfast plans include a Japanese breakfast. The booking page says the menu does not change day to day and may vary with what the inn can source.

Can the inn handle allergies or a special diet?

The booking page asks guests with allergies to tell the inn in advance. It says nothing about vegetarian, vegan or halal meals, so ask before you book.

Rooms and prices at Hananomai

Which rooms can I book?

The booking page lists three room types. All are non-smoking and have a Western-style toilet, a fridge and Wi-Fi. Yukata and other amenities are set out at the front desk; take what you need to your room.

RoomGuestsRoom onlyWith breakfast
Main building, 10-mat Japanese room (toilet, no bath; stairs on the way)2–312,100 yen14,300 yen

Detached Japanese-Western room with an outdoor bath carved from a single rock (two semi-double beds; futons from the 3rd guest)2–619,800 yen22,000 yen

Lowest “from” prices per person with 2 guests in a room, tax included, on the official booking page, read October 12, 2026.

Are there discounts for longer stays?

Yes. The booking page has a 10 percent off room-only plan for 2 nights or more and a 20 percent off room-only plan for a one-week stay. Multi-night plans use “eco cleaning”: during your stay, staff only collect trash and change towels. There are also solo plans, room only or with breakfast, in the main-building room.

The baths at Hananomai

When are the baths open?

The large bath, which has big windows, is fed 100 percent by flowing hot-spring water. It, the private outdoor bath and the private indoor bath are all open from 15:00 to 9:30 the next morning. The water is a simple spring (tanjun onsen), 49.9°C at the source, pH 7.9, clear and odorless.

How do the private baths work?

The private outdoor bath and the private indoor bath need no booking; use whichever is free. The booking page adds that the way the baths are used may change depending on circumstances. Massage can also be arranged; ask at the front desk after check-in.

Can I bathe with a tattoo?

The official pages do not mention tattoos. The private baths are used by your group alone, but ask the inn before you book. Our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.

Children, cancellation and payment at Hananomai

Can children stay?

The main-building room without a bath does not accept children. The booking form has child age groups, but the official pages do not state child rates or rules for the other rooms, so ask the inn.

What is the cancellation policy?

The booking page says online cancellation is accepted until 23:00 the day before your stay. It does not list cancellation fee rates, so confirm them with the inn when you book. See our hotel cancellation guide for how fees work in Japan.

How do I pay, and is there a bathing tax?

Every plan on the booking page is paid in advance by credit card or PayPay. Prepaid bookings are an arranged-travel contract with Time Design Co., Ltd. Yufu City charges a bathing tax of 250 yen per person per night at this price level, and children under 12 are exempt. The official pages do not say whether it is in the plan price; see our onsen bathing tax guide.

Lake Kinrinko is a 5-minute walk. There is free parking for 10 cars, no booking needed. The official pages do not mention a pickup service.
