Hotel Keihan Universal Tower (2026): Onsen, Fees, Rules

Guide·October 11, 2026·17 min read·Sourced & cross-checked

Hotel Keihan Universal Tower is a 32-floor official hotel of Universal Studios Japan, about two minutes on foot from the park, with all 641 rooms renewed in March 2025. Before you book, know five rules: the English booking site shows “Pay at hotel” on every plan, even plans that are prepaid only; canceling the day before costs 50 percent; arriving after 8 p.m. without calling can cancel the booking; the 31st-floor onsen costs extra and turns away even tattoo stickers; and bed sharing is free only for preschool-age children, and not in the bunk-bed rooms.

This page covers the USJ tower only. For the chain’s other hotels and its shared rules, see our Hotel Keihan guide.

Honto check: Every rule and figure below is from Hotel Keihan Universal Tower’s official Japanese and English sites, the Hotel Keihan terms of stay and house rules (revised July 1, 2024), its sales terms, and the hotel’s official booking site in Japanese and English, read on October 5, 2026. We have not stayed there, and we could not read Universal Studios Japan’s own hotel pages. Deliberately not stated: the Osaka accommodation tax amount, which the hotel does not publish; a service charge, which no page lists; the paid late checkout fee; children’s rates and extra bed fees; Express Pass sales or early park entry, which the hotel does not mention; locker sizes; vegetarian and halal meals; whether staff speak English; room rates; and the airport bus fare.

Where is Hotel Keihan Universal Tower, and how do I get there?

How do I walk there from Universal City Station?

Leave the JR Universal City Station gates and turn left. Walk straight past the Starbucks and Lawson on your left, turn left at the Lawson corner, and the hotel entrance is there. Take the escalator on the right up one floor to the 4th, where the front desk is on the left. The English site gives about a minute from the station and two minutes to the park gates. For planning the park itself, see our Universal Studios Japan guide.

How do I get there from Kansai Airport?

The English site gives about 65 minutes by JR: the Kansai Airport Rapid Service to Nishikujo, then the JR Yumesaki Line to Universal City. The airport limousine bus takes about 70 minutes to the USJ bus plaza, stand 1; from there, walk through Universal CityWalk, and the hotel is on your right. The hotel’s English pages give 9 or 10 minutes for that walk. Check bus times on the bus company’s own site.

Is there parking?

Yes, 158 spaces on the 1st and 2nd floors, for cars up to 2.1 m high, open 24 hours. Hotel guests pay up to 3,500 yen for the first 24 hours, then 200 yen every 20 minutes, and the maximum repeats. Spaces are first come, first served, with no reservations, and if you drive out you may not find a space when you return. The hotel recommends public transport, since the area around the park gets very crowded.

Booking in English: two traps on the official site

Does “Pay at hotel” mean I pay at the hotel?

Not always. The English version of the official booking site shows “Pay at hotel” on every plan. But on the Japanese version, some plans are marked as web payment, and the English text of one such plan says, “This plan is for advance payment only.” Read the payment terms on the final screen before you confirm.

Does “Early Bird Discount 90%” mean 90 percent off?

No. The Japanese names, Hayawari 90 and Hayawari 45, mean booking at least 90 or 45 days ahead. The English plan names translate them as “Early Bird Discount 90%” and “Early bird discount 45%”, but the plan text itself says, “Book 45 days in advance for great savings!”

Before you press confirm: check the payment method and the cancellation rules on the final screen of your plan. The booking site says its prices include consumption tax; the hotel’s sales terms list the accommodation tax and bathing tax as possible extras, without amounts.

Is booking direct cheaper?

The hotel says booking on its official site after free web member registration is the lowest price for the Hotel Keihan chain, though other sites may match it. Members get 5 percent off the hotel’s own plans, 5 percent back in points, and a free one-hour late checkout if they ask at check-in. The site takes Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Diners Club and American Express.

What time are check-in and checkout?

The booking site shows check-in from 15:00 to 24:00 and checkout by 11:00; the terms set the same 15:00 to 11:00. The hotel does not publish its fee for a paid late checkout. Guests from outside Japan show their passport, which the terms say the hotel copies and keeps. Guests under 18 staying without an adult need a consent form signed by a parent, handed in at check-in.

What if I arrive after 8 p.m.?

Call the hotel on +81-6-6465-1001. Article 6 of the terms says that if you have not arrived by 8 p.m., or two hours after the arrival time you gave, without notice, the hotel may treat the booking as canceled. The booking site’s midnight check-in does not replace the call, and the booking site charges 100 percent for a cancellation without contact.

What does it cost to cancel?

Attached Table 2 of the Hotel Keihan terms of stay, matching the sales terms and the booking site, read October 5, 2026. No charge is listed four or more days before.

The percentages apply to the basic room rate, and shortening a stay costs one night, however many nights you cut. The terms say a plan’s own rules, or a booking site’s, may take priority; one prepaid plan we read charges from three days before. Our hotel cancellation guide explains how fees work across Japan.

The onsen at Hotel Keihan Universal Tower

Is the onsen included in the room rate?

No. SkySpa S-PARK on the 31st floor is a natural hot spring, 100 percent source water, with a dry sauna in each bath and a mist sauna in the women’s. It costs, per night:

GuestEvening and morningMorning only
Adult (13+)2,000 yen + 150 yen bathing tax1,150 yen, tax included
Child (3 to 12)1,000 yen, no tax500 yen
Ages 0 to 2Cannot bathe

Official SkySpa page (Japanese and English), read October 5, 2026. Hours: 16:00 to 1:00 (last entry 0:30) and 5:00 to 9:30 (last entry 9:00).

The nightly ticket lets you bathe as often as you like within those hours. The morning-only rate is paid by cashless payment only at the 31st-floor desk, with no re-entry. The spa is open only to hotel guests, and the spa page says you can come up in the room’s nightwear and slippers. Children aged 7 or older, or 120 cm or taller, use the bath for their own gender.

No tattoos, no tattoo stickers: the hotel turns away people with tattoos, tattoo stickers or body paint, and anyone drunk, in both its Japanese and English rules. A cover sticker does not get you in. Our tattoos and onsen guide lists other options.

In the Low Bed, Standard, Superior and Bunk Bed rooms you take your shoes off, and the low beds are fixed. Every room has ReFa shower heads and dryers, a fridge-freezer and free Wi-Fi, and every room is non-smoking. A Curious George room is on the 24th floor. Kids and families at Hotel Keihan Universal Tower

Can children share a bed for free?

Yes: preschool-age children, before elementary school, share free, one per adult per bed, according to the Japanese room pages and the booking site in both languages. The English room pages say under 6 instead, which leaves out a 6-year-old who has not started school; we follow the Japanese. The two Bunk Bed room types do not allow bed sharing, and the English site does not say so. The pages do not list children’s rates.

Are cots and bed guards available?

Cots are only for babies under 1 who cannot yet stand, and bed guards only for children 18 months or older, both in limited numbers. The Casual rooms cannot take a cot. An amenity cart has children’s gowns, slippers and toothbrushes, and bathrooms have a step stool.

What does breakfast cost?

Breakfast13+7 to 124 to 6
Standard (3F or 4F)3,300 yen1,980 yen1,320 yen
Premium (32F)4,400 yen2,530 yen1,870 yen

Official breakfast page, tax included, read October 5, 2026. Both run 6:30 to 10:00, last entry 9:30. The pages do not list a price for children under 4.

The premium buffet on the 32nd floor is for guests on premium breakfast plans, and standard-plan guests can upgrade by paying the difference when there is space. The Japanese page says the standard buffet is on the 3rd floor or in a 4th-floor banquet room, depending on the day. The restaurants label the eight major allergens plus soy, salmon and mackerel in Japanese, and you may bring your own safe food to the table.

Luggage, tickets and services at Hotel Keihan Universal Tower

Can I leave my bags before check-in and after checkout?

Yes, free, in guest-only lockers: ask staff for a special coin. Bags go in the 4th-floor lockers before check-in and the 3rd-floor lockers after checkout. The hotel says suitcases cannot go into the park, so leave them at the hotel. You can send bags and souvenirs home from the bell counter, except items over 170 cm in total size, over 25 kg, or needing refrigeration.

Can I buy USJ tickets at the hotel?

Yes. The 4th-floor ticket counter sells Studio Passes that need no exchange at the park booths, plus Captain Line cruise tickets, and monitors in the hotel show attraction wait times. The hotel’s pages do not mention Express Pass sales or early park entry.

Is there laundry?

Yes, 12 washers on the 3rd floor: a wash costs 600 yen and 40 minutes of drying 400 yen, cashless only, with detergent added automatically. A currency exchange machine on the 4th floor changes eight currencies into yen.

Is anything under construction?

Yes. The hotel announced outdoor work on its grounds from October 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027, from 11:00 to 15:00, with noise, vibration and work vehicles.

Who Hotel Keihan Universal Tower suits

Families doing USJ who want the park two minutes away, free lockers on both ends of the stay and a ticket counter in the lobby, and travelers arriving by JR from Kansai Airport. It is a harder fit for guests with tattoos who want the onsen, for families who need to share a bed in a bunk-bed room, for anyone landing after 8 p.m. who cannot call ahead, and for anyone booking in English who does not check the final payment screen.
