Vessel Hotels is a Fukuyama-based chain of 33 hotels that has decided to be the family chain of Japan, and the rules show it: anyone 18 or under sleeps free in a room with parents or grandparents, at every hotel, with no cap on numbers; a sick child cancels the whole family’s booking for free; and a wet bed costs nothing. Around that it is a normal Japanese business hotel with a generous clock, check-in 14:00, checkout 11:00, a 20 percent day-before cancellation fee, payment up front, and a 22:00 no-show cutoff.

What is Vessel Hotels, and which brand is which?
Vessel Hotel Development, headquartered in Fukuyama, Hiroshima, runs four brands. Vessel Hotel Campana (Susukino, Nagoya, Kyoto Gojo, Okinawa) is the resort-flavored tier with a large bath and sauna. Vessel Inn (14 hotels: Sapporo Nakajima Koen, Yachiyo Katsutadai, Chiba, Keisei Tsudanuma, Asakusa Tsukuba Express, Ueno Iriya, Takadanobaba, Sakae, Shiga Moriyama, Shinsaibashi, Namba, Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Hakata Nakasu) is the station-front city format. Vessel Hotel (9, mostly in Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Kyushu, plus Ishigaki) is the roadside original. REF by Vessel Hotels (6: Omiya, Kyoto Hachijoguchi, Kansai Airport Izumisano, Matsuyama, Kumamoto, Okinawa Arena) is the lifestyle brand with in-house events. The chain’s stated vision is “loving you, your family and the town”.
What is in the rooms and lobby?
Every room is non-smoking, with an air purifier, Wi-Fi and wired internet. The lobby lounge pours welcome drinks, coffee and juice, as often as you like, and lets you carry them upstairs; Asakusa serves them 14:00 to 23:00, and Kyoto Gojo adds cotton candy on weekend afternoons. Coin laundries run 24 hours at the hotels checked, microwaves and ice machines are standard, and the Campana hotels lend bicycles free for the first two or three hours.
Which hotels are shoes-off?
Vessel Inn Asakusa Tsukuba Express, six minutes from the TX Asakusa exit and fourteen from Kaminarimon, finished renovating all its rooms on March 31, 2026 as shoes-off, barefoot rooms aimed at families with small children, and added sauna-and-terrace rooms with their own cold bath, wine and an optional barbecue. Is there an age limit?
18, which is the highest of any Japanese chain we have covered; the b hotels and Comfort Hotel stop at elementary school. The condition is that the child shares a bed with a parent or grandparent and does not take a bed of their own; a teenager who needs a bed is an adult on the bill. Enter school-age children in the “elementary” field and note the ages of anyone of junior-high age or older in the request box.
What does a child’s breakfast cost?
Nothing through age 5; from 6 it is charged and paid at check-in, not in the room rate. Two exceptions the page prints: Vessel Inn Shiga Moriyama charges children the adult rate for the room, and the REF and Recoup brands charge breakfast for bed-sharing children aged 6 to 12.
What is the “kids support” promise?
Three things, for children aged 0 to 6 on the day of the stay. First, if the child falls suddenly ill and the trip is called off, the cancellation fee is waived for the whole family, not just the child’s room, provided you booked by phone or on the official site, tell the hotel by e-mail or phone before check-in time, and can show a clinic receipt if asked; bookings through Rakuten, Jalan or agencies, air-and-hotel packages, non-refundable plans and groups of 15 or more are excluded. Second, bed-wetting cleaning and accidental damage to hotel property are not charged, whatever the booking channel, unless deliberate or extreme. Third, the free equipment list below. What can I borrow for free?
A crib (except at Hakata Nakasu), a bed guard for children over 18 months, a stroller, diapers in S, M and L, wipes, a diaper bin, a bed-wetting mat, a child toilet seat, a step stool, a high chair at breakfast, children’s tableware, a bottle sterilizer, picture books, toys, a DVD player (no discs) and a children’s toothbrush set. What are the hours?
14:00 and 11:00 at Asakusa, Kyoto Gojo and Susukino, which the pages describe as a relaxed setting; the group terms leave the hours to each hotel, so check yours. Kyoto Gojo needs the card key to enter after midnight and Susukino after 1:00, with staff at the desk all night.

What if I arrive late?
The terms let the hotel treat the booking as canceled if you have not arrived and have not called by 22:00, or one hour after an arrival time you stated, a shorter grace than most chains’ two hours. Then the cancellation table applies. Put a late time on the booking or phone from the airport.

How does it compare?
Vessel starts charging earlier than the b hotels or JR-East Hotel Mets, at 10 percent from nine days out, but keeps the same-day fee at 80 rather than 100 percent. The sick-child waiver has no equivalent at any other chain we have read.
Do I pay up front?
Yes. The house rules state that payment is in advance, the full amount for the booked nights at check-in, in cash, by card or coupon. The hotel will not front money for train tickets, taxis, stamps or shipping, and cash and valuables belong at the desk, not in a rental locker, with cover up to 150,000 yen for undeclared items.
Breakfast, the bath and the Vessel Club
What is breakfast like?
The chain runs a “Happy Breakfast Project” of local menus: at Asakusa, Fukagawa clam rice, a sumo-stable stew udon and tuna bowls under a downtown-Tokyo theme, 6:00 to 9:30, at 1,500 yen for guests, 700 yen for ages 6 to 12, free for 5 and under, and 2,000 yen for outsiders; Susukino serves Sapporo soup curry, Okinawa serves Okinawan dishes on yachimun pottery. Which hotels have a bath?
Campana Susukino and Campana Kyoto Gojo each have a large bath with a sauna, and the brand page speaks of natural hot spring water from 1,400 meters down at some hotels and a bath families can use together, without naming them. Asakusa has no public bath. No page prints a tattoo rule, so ask; Dormy Inn is the chain that publishes one.
Is the Vessel Club worth it?
It is free and pays 7 points per 100 yen before tax on official-site bookings, up to 10 percent at the top rate, each point worth a yen off a later stay; the site headlines a lowest-price guarantee, a free night after ten stays and a bottle of mineral water, and adds a discount plan for guests aged 60 and over. Package plans with flights or rail earn nothing.
Is there parking?
Asakusa has a multi-story lot at 1,100 yen and five flat spaces at 2,000 yen, reservation required; Kyoto Gojo has 28 spaces and Susukino 82, both open around the clock. The terms make the hotel a landlord of the space, not a custodian of the car.
Can I send luggage ahead?
Only if the hotel has agreed to receive it before it arrives, under the terms, and it is handed over at check-in. Items left behind are kept 14 days, valuables 7 days before going to the police; food and magazines are discarded sooner.
Who Vessel Hotels is for
Families, obviously, and especially those with teenagers, who are free here and full price almost everywhere else. Also anyone who likes a 14:00 check-in and a lounge that keeps pouring. It is not the chain for a late arrival without a phone call, and the bath is a Campana feature rather than a given.
