Oyado Uchiyama is a small inn in the hills of Izu Kogen, at the foot of Mount Omuro in Ito, Shizuoka. It has just six detached villas and takes six groups a day. Every villa has two floors and its own hot-spring baths, and the inn describes itself as a place to soak, do nothing and rest. Before you book, three things matter: the only baths are the indoor and open-air baths in your villa; smoking is allowed in the villas; and the website and booking page are in Japanese only.

What kind of hot spring is it?
The water is an alkaline simple spring, clear and without taste or smell. The FAQ says both baths in each villa use natural hot-spring water, flowing continuously, with water added and the temperature raised. No bathing hours are given; the baths are yours for the stay.
Is there a shared or private bath to book?
No. The FAQ says the in-villa indoor and open-air baths are the only baths: there is no large bath and no private bath to reserve, and the inn does not offer day bathing. The baths cannot be used before check-in or after check-out because of cleaning.
Can I bathe with a tattoo?
The official pages do not mention tattoos. Since you bathe in your own villa, ask the inn directly if you want to be sure; our tattoo and onsen guide explains what to ask.
What is in the villas?
Rooms list a fridge, safe, DVD player, tea set, kettle, hair dryer, humidifier with air purifier and Wi-Fi in every room, with yukata, bathrobes and toiletries. The inn is not fully barrier-free: there is a step at the entrance and stairs to the 2nd floor, where the open-air baths are.
Meals at Oyado Uchiyama

What are dinner and breakfast like?
Dinner is Uchiyama-style kaiseki, served one dish at a time, starting at 18:00 or 18:30. The FAQ places dinner in the dining room and breakfast in your villa, and some plans serve dinner in the villa. Breakfast is at 8:30 or 9:00; its signature dish is abalone with a thick sauce, and the rice is cooked in a clay pot to match your breakfast time. The menu follows the seasons: sea bream and bamboo shoots in spring, abalone and pike conger in summer, matsutake and chestnuts in autumn, and spiny lobster and kinmedai in winter. Isojiman sake is on the drinks list.
Can the inn handle allergies or a vegetarian diet?
The inn asks about allergies at booking and cooks with other ingredients instead. There is no vegetable-only menu; the inn can serve the regular menu without meat and fish, and says you can consult it directly. Halal, vegan and gluten-free needs are not covered on the official pages.
Getting to Oyado Uchiyama in Izu Kogen (Izukogen)

How do I get there from Tokyo?
The nearest station is Izu-Kogen Station on the Izu Kyuko line. From Tokyo, the access page gives the Odoriko limited express bound for Izu-Kyu Shimoda, about 2 hours 10 minutes to Izu-Kogen, or the Kodama shinkansen (about 50 minutes), then the JR Ito line (about 25 minutes) and the Izu Kyuko line (about 30 minutes).
Is there a pickup service?
No. The inn asks rail travelers to take a taxi, and from Izu-Kogen Station it is a short taxi ride. For the return, the front desk can call a taxi for you. Guests who drive get free parking for six cars or more; if your navigation system cannot find “Uchiyama,” the inn asks you to phone. Mount Omuro is about 5 minutes away by car, and Lake Ippeki, the Kadowaki suspension bridge and Izu Shaboten Park are in the area.
Prices and rules at Oyado Uchiyama
How much does a stay cost?
The official site has no rate table, so check plans and prices on the official booking page. On top of the room rate, Ito City charges a bathing tax of 300 yen per person per night for overnight guests, raised from 150 yen on October 1, 2025; children of elementary school age and younger are exempt. The official pages do not say whether plans include it. See our onsen bathing tax guide.
What do children cost?
From the FAQ: under 1 year is free; from age 1 to preschool there is a 5,000 yen facility fee; lower elementary grades pay 50 percent of the adult rate and upper grades 70 percent; junior high and older pay the adult rate. Groups with children under junior high age eat dinner in their villa; on a plan without in-villa dinner, that adds 3,000 yen per adult.
