Comfort Hotel in Japan is the local franchise of the American Choice Hotels chain, and it runs on three promises that matter to a visitor: a free breakfast at most hotels, children through sixth grade free in your bed, and a library cafe you can sit in from 10:00 on the day you arrive until midnight on the day you leave. Book on the official site and the standard 15:00-to-10:00 stay becomes 14:00 to 11:00. The site is Japanese only, so the rules below are translated from it.

What is Comfort Hotel Japan, and which brand is which?
Choice Hotels International runs more than 7,500 hotels in over 46 countries; in Japan the master franchisee is Choice Hotels Japan, a subsidiary of the Greens group, and its company page lists 110 hotels under five names. Comfort Hotel (67 of them) is the standard city brand; nine of those became Comfort Hotel ERA, a design-led tier, including three rebranded on June 22, 24 and 26, 2026. Comfort Inn (39) is the simpler roadside and station format. Comfort Suites (2) is the resort brand and Ascend Collection (2) the local-character boutique line. If you know the American Comfort Inn, adjust your picture: the Japanese hotels are compact city business hotels with a lounge.
What is the “Choice Pillow”?
A pillow the chain developed with a bedding maker after finding that nearly half its guests fall asleep on their backs, shaped to hold either a back or a side sleeper, and installed in every room. A matching bed pad is standard and a leg cushion can be borrowed at the desk; the company’s own 2015 survey claimed 89.5 percent of guests found the bedding easier on the body. Rooms at the hotels we opened also have a humidifying air purifier and are all non-smoking.
How big are the rooms?
Comfort Inn Tokyo Roppongi, a minute from Roppongi Station, runs from single rooms through 15-to-21-square-meter twins to a 31-square-meter four-bed room with four 110-centimeter Simmons beds, a sofa and USB-C sockets. Several room types there have a shower booth and no bathtub, which the page states plainly. A three-adult twin gets a 100-centimeter extra bed.

What are the standard hours?
15:00 in, 10:00 out, which the room pages label the “normal” check-in and checkout. Roppongi has a self-service check-in machine and an online check-in the page says takes as little as 30 seconds.
How do I get the 21-hour stay?
Book on the official Japanese site, logged in or not. The “long stay” benefit moves check-in to 14:00 and checkout to 11:00, two hours more than standard, except on plans that fix their own times such as short-stay rates. Arrive earlier or leave later and the front desk stores your bags while you use the library cafe.
Can I check in at 11:00?
Gold members can, with Super Early In 11: if a room is free on the day, check-in from 11:00, and the benefit applies to the whole booking even if only the booker is Gold. Combined with the 11:00 checkout that is 24 hours in the hotel. A time set below 14:00 on the booking is a request, not a guarantee.
The library cafe and the welcome drink
What is the library cafe?
A guests-only open space, the brand’s signature, with books, sofas, power sockets and free coffee and tea. The hours are the useful part: from 10:00 on the day you check in, five hours before your room, to 24:00 on the day you check out, thirteen hours after it. The Stay page pitches it as a co-working space, and for a traveler with a late flight it is a free place to sit with luggage stored at the desk.
What is the welcome drink?
Free coffee and “refreshment water” for guests between 14:00 and 24:00, poured in the cafe and allowed up to the room. Gold members who booked direct also pick a Welcome Choice at check-in, one drink or branded item per night, from five options.
Can non-guests use the cafe?
Members can. Choice Guest Club sends a monthly ticket by e-mail to members who meet its conditions: five visits a month at Blue, unlimited at Gold. The chain’s own example is a business traveler using the cafe near home as an office.
Breakfast: free at Comfort Hotel, priced at some Inns
What is the free breakfast?
The Eat page calls it “Color your Morning”: a buffet balanced across protein, fat and carbohydrate, with local dishes and a menu that changes daily so a multi-night stay does not repeat. At Comfort Inn Kyoto Shijo Karasuma that means freshly cooked rice and a spread of Kyoto obanzai side dishes, free for guests and for bed-sharing children.
Where is it charged?
At some Comfort Inns. Comfort Inn Tokyo Roppongi ended free breakfast on November 1, 2021 and now serves a Thai-and-Western buffet at the adjoining Bangkok Night restaurant for 1,500 yen (age 13 and up), 800 yen (ages 4 to 12) and free under 4, with tom yum ramen and rice porridge on the line. The brand page still describes free breakfast as a Comfort Hotel feature, so treat the Inns as the ones to check.

How do the points work?
Every 220 yen of room charge on an official-site booking earns 1 choice, credited two days after checkout. 100 choices bring a 500-yen coupon for the next official booking, and 300 choices in a year (66,000 yen of stays, counted from April 1 checkouts to March 31) lift you to Gold for the following year. Balances reset to zero on March 31. A relaunch of the program is announced for January 2027, so the numbers may change then.
What does Blue get, and what does Gold add?
Blue, the level you join at, has eight benefits: the 14:00-to-11:00 stay, coupons by e-mail, a 1,000-yen birthday coupon, a gift every five Comfort stays, the last-room rule (when one room is left, only logged-in members see it), the monthly cafe ticket and the charity link. Gold adds seven more: 11:00 check-in, the Welcome Choice gift, a 2,000-yen birthday coupon, the members-only family plan for two or more per room, unlimited cafe tickets, Gold-only coupons and campaigns, and occasional free preview nights at hotels before they open.
What is the charity line on the terms?
The booking terms state that 0.5 percent of room charges booked through the site is donated by the parent company to three social organizations, scaled to members’ choices. It changes nothing on your bill; it is why the program calls its points “choice”.
The best-rate guarantee
Book on the official site, find the same stay cheaper on another site within 24 hours, and send the site name, URL, price, the time you saw it, hotel, dates, headcount, room type, times, payment method and plan through the inquiry form. The chain matches rates that are public and identical in conditions; it excludes member-only or corporate rates, prices cut by another site’s instant coupons or points, and rates only visible after logging in there. Because prices move during the day, the page asks for the exact time of your screenshot.
Baths, laundry and the Kyoto exception
Most Comfort Hotels have a unit bathroom in the room and no public bath. Comfort Inn Kyoto Shijo Karasuma, five minutes from Shijo Station, is the exception we found: separate men’s and women’s baths of artificial carbonated spring water, guests only, open until 24:00 for late arrivals. Roppongi has a 24-hour coin laundry, lends telework equipment, and puts a humidifier-purifier in every room. Whether the Kyoto bath admits tattoos is not on its page; ask before you rely on it.
Who Comfort Hotel is for
Families with school-age children, and anyone who wants somewhere to sit before 15:00 and after 10:00 without paying for it. Book direct: the free membership, the 21-hour stay and the price match all hang on the official site.
