How to use
- 1. Type your detailsFamily name and given names as in your passport, date of birth, the country and city you live in, purpose, flight number, days in Japan, and your hotel and its phone number.
- 2. Check the warningsThe page warns you if a box is empty, if you typed letters that are not English or Japanese, or if a sightseeing stay is over 90 days.
- 3. Copy each box onto the cardThe copy sheet follows the order of the real card. Print it or keep it on your phone during the flight.
- 4. Or use Visit Japan WebThe Immigration Services Agency recommends submitting the same record electronically in Visit Japan Web.
The boxes on the card, in order
The card says to enter information in English or Japanese. Paper cards come in three versions: Japanese/English/Traditional Chinese, Japanese/English/Simplified Chinese, and Japanese/English/Korean. The Immigration Services Agency also publishes explanation sheets in nine languages.

Who needs a card
Every foreign national newly entering Japan submits the Disembarkation Card for Foreigner. People re-entering with a re-entry permit (including a special re-entry permit) and some other groups are not covered by the electronic version. Family members each need their own card or their own Visit Japan Web QR code.

Paper card or Visit Japan Web?
The Immigration Services Agency recommends submitting the record electronically with Visit Japan Web, filled in before you reach the immigration area. If you are not comfortable using a smartphone, you can submit the paper card instead. For immigration, a screenshot of the QR code can be used, but you need a new one if you change your details.

FAQ
Do I need to fill in a paper arrival card for Japan?
Every foreign national newly entering Japan submits the Disembarkation Card for Foreigner. You can do it on paper, or electronically in Visit Japan Web, which the Immigration Services Agency recommends.
Can I write the arrival card in Chinese or Korean?
No. The card asks you to write in English or Japanese, even on the Chinese and Korean versions of the card.
What do I write for length of stay?
How long you plan to stay. For sightseeing and other short stays, it should be 90 days or less. The Immigration Services Agency says this box is often filled in wrongly.
What do I write for address in Japan?
Your hotel or where you are staying, with its phone number.
Do children need their own card?
Yes. Each person newly entering Japan needs their own card, or their own QR code in Visit Japan Web.
Does this page save or send my details?
No. Everything stays in this page in your browser and disappears when you close it.
How do I make cards for my family?
Fill in your own card first, then press Next person. The flight, length of stay, hotel and phone stay filled in; only the name and date of birth are cleared. Each person needs their own card.
